pacs success and popularity. pac defeated dlh in such a manner that it made mayweathers split decision win look average. pac is doing what mayweather did but better.

Mayweather is only known by boxing fans. Pacquiao is now known by the mainstream media after what happened in the DLH fight. Mayweather couldn't get the type of following after his DLH fight because it was such a boring fight and alot of "non hardcore" fans didn't think jabbing and slapping his way to a decision was anything special.

The large majority of people will always be on one side or the other on a fighter and have very little gray area to maneuver in.

What I mean is, while Pac's success doesn't directly undermine Floyd; the bulk of people who all ready hate PBF (for any reason) will try to bolster up Paquiao even more because it is a shot directly at Floyd. Then instead of rational discussion taking place it is simply just one more insult-fest revolving around the same 2 parties as always; just framed differently.

This hype of Pacman as of late is like the same thing that was going on with Pavlik. He is a good fighter and all, but he ain't our best fighter. Me personally, don't think we have one. In due time though, the luster of Pacman will come down to reality and he'll be seen for what he really is and that is a very good fighter, but he ain't our best.
