I think some of you have no idea how challanging staying off the ropes against Margarito is considering you can't back him up or hurt him. I think the game plan you want Cotto to use is impossiable for any fighter to follow.

seriously he could give a better fight by clinching but people are understimating the psycologichal impact that fight did on cotto
idk why people say it changed Cotto mentally. he partied 3weeks later and wants a rematch.

if that doesnt show hes fine then idk what im missing.

Parting has nothing to do with anything, if anything a way to escape perhaps. He didn't want anything to do with Marg right after. Why did it take Cotto awhile to want a rematch? Not only that his taking a tune up while Marg is fighting Mosley. If Cotto was in the same mind frame he came into the Fight he would have demanded a re match immediately. I like Cotto, but its not far fetch to suggest that his defeat has affected him psychologically. He didn't even stay for the post fight interview which speaks for itself. His bubble was busted. Am not saying Cotto's finished, but I think his a bit damaged goods.

Cotto could have won that fight, if he only clinch more. He's just have too much pride to clinch, but you know clinching is part of boxing. Its perfect for fighters that likes to go forward. For example: Mayweather vs Hatton. Obviously you cant trade with someone who's got superman chin just like Margarito. You should swallow your pride and do everything you can do to win. He's agile enough to throw combination then get away. Clinching would help with your stamina too, you can clinch and rest.
i think staying off the ropes would be more effective than clinching.

Because it's called circling ur opponent...which is what Cotto needed to do more of..in the center Cotto ****s Margarito up bad!...even against the ropes on his back foot..but more in the center..clinching won't be the key in the rematch..it'll be stick and move more...and staying off the ropes and don't get in to an inside match..cuz in the inside those uppercuts are gonna land ugly!..

Cotto needs to dig in to the body..even if Margarito tucks his arms in..he needs to **** at Margaritos elbows and arm..and smash them ribs in..although it'll leave cotto more vulnerable to get tagged in the head..he holds a decent chin and good head movement to last a couple shots while he does damage downstairs!..

and GUALA!..Late TKO or Decision for Cotto..

You should watch the fight with out these clowns from HBO commentating on it...They swear Cotto was winning the fight up until the 11th round even though 2 of the judges has Margo winnin and one had a draw...

"Tough round to score" Translation: Margarito just beat Cotto's ass...

              lol at these clowns...

anyone that says cotto fought the perfect fight is wrong.they're better off saying marga fought an intelligent fight.cotto clearly made mistakes.how the hell can you be a body puncher and not attack the body? cause margarito didn't let him? so margarito stayed in his guard all day, and didn't throw any punches? backing into and staying on the ropes is clearly a mistake unless you're gonna shoulder roll his ass all day.HE DID NOT FIGHT THE PERFECT FIGHT.he just showed what he could do against someone with margarito's cons(i.e. his lack of speed), and what he couldn't do with margarito's pros his (relentlessness and granite chin)

Cotto already admitted he couldn’t go to the body so that argument is closed. Believe it or not, but Marg doesn’t have that bad of a defense.

C'mon! Cotto gave EVERYTHING in that fight. Perhaps he could have boxed a bit smarter later on, but it's tough to fight that perfect tactical bout when you're the guy who's going backwards faster than the Italian army whilst being outhit at a ratio of two to one by someone who's eating up your best shots and showing no visible sign of discomfort whatsoever.

Cotto deserves the Iron Cross for surviving as long as he did against that freak bastard, Margarito. That guy needs to get the **** out of the division and take on guys his own size. Like Chuck Norris or Danny Trejo. Or both.
