I like Gamboa, but I see him getting worked by the upper tier of the smaller divisions. His defense is borderline mediocre and facing guys like Izzy, Rafael, or even Juan Ma down the road may be a road block for him if he doesn't learn to defend himself (particularly his left hand constantly being down).

Guys like Roy were able to get away with keeping their hands down because how elusive and quick they were, but I see Gamboa having a good career, but losing some meaningful fights once he steps up the competition.

Another Roy? And Chris Arreola is another Ali.

Gamboa is already a miserable failure given that he came with hype. He is 27 and repeatedly getting clocked by journeymen. When Roy was his age he owned boxing.

Agreed Gamboa's talent could make him into anything from a ****y dissapointment to anothe RJJ hes got d same kind of speed and reflexes but ive noticed hes reflexes seem somehow diminished when he tries to adjust hes style to what hes being taught on being defensive he does d matrix dodging bullet move much better with hes hands down which is a joy 2 watch no matter what hes got a bright future.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I was reading this thread thinking it was a joke and then I realized after 6 or 7 posts it wasn't. For crying out loud Gamboa couldn't get rid of a guy who fought most of his career at 112 and was dropped by him . How does that lead anyone to the conlcusion that he will most likely be a multi weight undisuputed champion and #1 p4p for a couple years?

At least Arreola will get his ass kicked on HBO for 7 figures. Gamboa looks like he is hell bent on ending his own hype with Teddy Atlas on the mic.

The whole situation is eerily similar to Tyson. All the highlight KO's and hype. On the other hand I don't care because it's good for boxing and his style sells. Give him a little credit for knowing what he's doing though. He is a Cuban gold medalist, that's the equivalent of owning a alphabet title these days.

Gamboa, in his current form, beats Juanma and Linares???!!! you provide double the entertainment: that fine ass girl in your avatar; and an ignorant comment... you'll sound a lot smarter if and when Gamboa finds some defense...

I dont think he would beat Linares at this point as Linares is a really sound all around fighter. Juanma is kind of a toss up, as we havent really seen him tested yet either.
Yuri needs to let a little of his ego go in the ring, he needs to start giving his opponents a little more respect and being a little bit more careful. He has this confidence about him, which is a good thing but he has allowed it to get him dropped a couple of times now. Nobody should expect him to change too much, but hopefully he can make some adjustments.
