That wasn't the way he fought before, I suggest you watch more of his fights early on in his career, he's that way now, just overwhelming opponents with open handed punches but those punches used to carry a lot of power. And a lot of fighters utilize that tactic, the fighter is supposed to force the referee to stop the fight, it's their opponents' fault for not punching back, hurt or not.
As I said, watch some of his earlier fights, his punches had much more power and much more snap, he has stunned a lot of his opponents and hurt some of them in the past and he still stuns and hurt opponents today, he hurt Kessler with a body shot, stunned Jones with a straight left hand and you could even make an argument that he wore Hopkins down. Those 'slaps' hurt more than they look.
