I mean just a thought my nephew is 15 and weighs 140, he is 6'0 and he is lean. It doesnt seem right that someone in there thirties is 147....but I guess it can be ok, Just like Hoya ....Sarcasm ----->But I guess it depends on what nationality the fighter is and if he wins Margarito vs Cotto, then its ok. If he loses Margarito vs. Williams then its not ok(Williams too big) Or Oscar De La Hoe loses to Pacquiao then Oscar is out of his weight..lol
And what ***ing ******s are saying Williams only beat Margarito because he was bigger? In fact I see more Margarito haters saying "thats what Tony gets for picking on smaller fighters". So if they are using that williams fight to discredit Margarito how can you insinuate that Margarito fans are using williams size as an excuse?

Well since the only thing you seemed to notice was('Williams was too big") and only commented on that ...exclude that statement.

[QUOTE=pistol whip;4556454]I see this said a lot on these boxing forums as of late and what I would like to know is what is the actual science behind determining what a boxers natural weight class is? You can't go by what the scales on fight night show simply because they are all unofficial scales and who knows when and at what time the boxers are getting weighed at. Some fighters are naturally taller but at the same time they are very thin so are we also taking height and reach advantages into consideration.[/QUOTE

Its a good question with a lot of opinions. Natural weight is really a vague term in the boxing community. I like to call it Natural fight weight. And to me thats the weight you are without doing unhealthy things to you're body, such as dehydrating yourself, running in sweatsuits and things of that nature. It amazes me how guys like Paul williams and Margarito can get down to 147. But the crazier thing is i've never heard of them killing themselves to make the weight.

At the end of the day the dehydrating thing is going to always be there and the rules are what they are. I have no problem with Williams, because he moves up and down in weight all the time, which i hope wont affect him long term. Margarito i'm also fine with, i'd just like to see him test himself sometime soon at a higher weight.

Good post but my only question is why does margarito have to test himself against bigger weight classes when he is already fighting fighters his size.

In fact I really think that becasue of better nutrition in a normal humans diet in this day and age that guys like Margarito have evolved into a natural welterweights while guys like Cotto, Judah and Mosely were never Welters to begin with.

It's kind like why in the 70's you never saw 300 pound lineman in football and nowadays evey single lineman in football is 300 pounds plus.

                    good post as well.

I have a lot of respect for Margarito. The man has only lost twice since his teenage years and with the Williams loss, it was mainly his own doing and lack of workrate the first 4 rounds. And the Santos fight was razor thin. At Welter he's nearly unbeatable and i think he has the skill, stamina and chin to do well at the higher weights. I dont know, he gets a lot of crap staying at welter, i would like him to shutup a lot of ppl and show that he can do it at higher weights.
