    Kelly Pavlik, a "hype-job"?

Why are people calling Pavlik a "hype-job"? To point out the fact that he lost to a much older, fading great in Hopkins? To discredit Hopkins' win? To **** on Taylor because he lost twice to Pavlik?

I think Pavlik has earned the praise that he's received. He beat the hell out of Edison Miranda, KO'd then Decisioned Taylor. I admit, I've not seen much other than highlights of Pavlik's previous fights, but he's got the makings of a superstar boxer, and he's earned the recognition.

Well if he is a hype job then what does that make Miranda and Taylor? Because he beat the **** out of both of them.

well, hype usually means that a fighter is portrayed greater than he really is. Pavlik was "suppose" to murder hopkins and instead he got schooled by hopkins. Pavlik is one of my favorite fighters so it pains me to say it but he was a little hyped.

It's the same **** that always happens on here. A fighter loses, then he's been "exposed as a hype job". Most people can't accept that in boxing, most of the time, one fighter has to lose.

but hype doesn't mean that he is a bad fighter. he just isn't as good as ppl thought him to be. But he is still a very good fighter and capable of achieving a lot if he stays at the mw limit.

kelly's a good fighter but any one of his boxing fans who has the more than 2 brain cells to rub togther knows that hes a little overrated. he was made out to be the second coming FFS!!!

for instance kelly is a good heavy handed puncher, he can go to the body or to the head and score the KO with either hand. but his power come from cumulative punching, he doesn't have that one punch KO power that someone like kessler, haye, klitchsko, abraham have. his power comes from an accumulation of powerful punches (hatton, marg, etc) and his ability to walk down opponents (ala margarito).

kelly trains hard, you can tell in his volume and output but there were fans here claiming that he threw punches on the same rate as JC. now i know that this isn't true i dont even need to go on boxrec to check it, its just obivous.

kelly's a good fighter like i said before hes heavy handed, good stamina, has a fighting heart and will always turn up hungry and motivated but ffs dont attempt to pull the wool over our eyes by making him out to be another hagler. boxings promoters and TV companies have been looking for boxing's next superstar but imo they made one instead of discovering one in kelly pavlik.

a good fighter but imo he will never be ATG, he has the potential to be memorable HOF'er but only if the comp he faces is moderately good and he racks up the defenses.

Tito, Oscar, John David Jackson, and Glenn Johnson also got schooled by Hopkins were they hype jobs too?....No way. Honestly there is no shame whatso ever in losing to a legend like Hopkins.

Pavlik is a hype job. So many loons picked him over Jesus himself because he was unbeaten and could punch.

Same guys were Miranda fans and are now Dawson nuts.

He's a hype job in terms of he wasn't on the level he was potrayed to be, however he's at least got some good names on his resume and is young enough to come back.

Other Hypejobs at the moment: Tim Bradley, Andre Burto, Chad Dawson and Victor Ortiz.

All have natural talent, it's hard to be a hypejob without natural talent.

All have been put on a pedastal that could potentially kill their careers, Dawson has at least fought more than one decent fighter and to be fair his division is empty of anything remotely good (retiree's and 40 year old not withstanding) so he should be ok.

Bradley Has fought 1 top 10 LWW
Otriz has fought no top 10 LWW's
Burto wasn't even touched anyone top 20.

Yet two of them hold a belt... These kids could be exposed in any fight not because they aren't good but because they haven't fought the guys just under title level yet so it's impossible to tell if their skills/power etc will carry that extra class level.

I hope that all three come through their next fights and become proven champions, but i fear at least one if not two will not.
