I guess he looked great early, won the first 5 rounds then gassed out and quit on his stool.

this just goes to show how bad the amateurs are nowadays. this guy was very highly accomplished as an amateur, and got bullrushed apparently until he quit.

If I was a boxer, I would learn the basics in the amateurs, and then switch over and learn as a pro pretty quickly.

They are saying Alexeev gassed in the 9th round, and his trainer decided that he not come out for the 10th. His opponent was much better than they expected, had a tight defense.

Universum ruined Alexeev by matching him too softly and not having him fight often enough last year. After facing unnecessarily soft opposition, when he went into deep waters with his first decent opponent, it was a new experience.

thats true, isnt it? He had never gone past the 6th round before. which is ironic, because apparently he was easily winning the first 5 rounds.

a shame too. the guy is going on 28 already, thats pretty old for this kind of a setback.

Doesen't sound like he even needed to box. I'm guessing it was pretty much a carbon copy of Purritty vs. Klitschko.
