Alexander Alexeev to fight for WBO interim title on Jan 17

The potential middleweight champion, Genaddy Golovkin, easily won again today (by first round KO).

Universum is moving him along too slow. He had a very successful amateur career, with wins over Andy Lee and Andre Dirrell (2004 Olympics), and a KO win over Lucian Bute.

Alexeev is a very good prospect and everything, but how is this possibly a title shot? his opponent is terrible. hes even terrible for WBO standards, he doesnt even have a built up fake record or anything.

Well the situation got all ****ed up when Banks flew the coop for the IBF title.

This fight was a contingency in case Banks vs. Macca had to be postponed again. When this fight was signed it was still thought that Banks and Macca would be fighting for the vacant title in March.

Now Macca will likely fight some complete bum for the "vacant" title and then have to make his first defense against "interim" champion Alexeev.

Maccarinelli will fight someone not too dangerous for the title, and then Alexeev will likely fight Maccarinelli in the summer.

Alexeev vs. Maccarinelli should be an entertaining fight while it lasts!
