Alright, I was supposed to be out of this thread...

I bet Roy wishes he had fought Joe back in the day, since he took such a beating recently. Roy could have stood a much better chance a few years ago and he should have said "**** it, I'm Superman, I'll knock this fraud out in his own back yard, even with a pay cut".

It works both ways. But damn, I bet he's now wishing he fought Joe earlier.

I think Roy is at peace with what he's accomplished throughout his career...

He knew what the deal was coming into this fight, he knew he was almost 40.. and hadnt beaten an elite fighter in 5 years... im sure he had high hopes like a lot of us, but he knew...

          Silly and besides the point.

Roy has been delusional since the 2nd Tarver fight.

This is a guy who said that he didn't win the 3rd Tarver fight cause his dad was his cornerman and he didn't want his dad to "get the victory".

I'm sure Roy is okay with all of it, or he'd have quit after his second brutal KO.

I'm not saying Jones ducked Calzgahe - he didn't. You can't blame either fighter for this fight not happening. Calzaghe was a SMW, Roy was a LHW, Calzaghe fought out of Europe, Roy fought out of the USA. Calzaghe was not a big enough name to really demand this fight and he wasn't going to fight bums in the states for less money than he could by fighting at home because in his words "I was working to pay off my mortgage, I had no money." The fight never happened in their primes, it happened when both was past their primes, Jones more so than Calzaghe but Calzaghe won.

It's a fantasy fight and a pointless one to go in to.

he should have retired after Ruiz like it seemed he was going to do...at least to me. Temptation and Ego led him back. He should have just ignored Tarver or just told him to shut up and sit down...then said "It's been good; I'm retiring." Or if he didn't want to retire and just wanted to shut Tarver up and then retire; he should have made him come up in weight. But, I doubt Jones knew that losing weight would kill him. He didn't start to feel the bad effects until he was training and found out that the weight is hard to take off when it is muscle.
              Good lesson for future fighters.

I still wonder if Joe could have gotten a shot at D.M. at LH

if he would have retired after ruiz he wouldnt of accmplished what bob fitsimmons did 106 years earlier.. and thats also coming back down to regain the LHW championship... he should of retired after realizing how ridiculously hard it was to beat tarver after coming down from heavyweight...

although, after beating everyone youve ever faced with ease... its hard to believe you no longer have it...

He should have retired after the first Tarver fight at the very least. I think he regrets it deep down now, those knock out losses really tarnished his record because he was such a perfect fighter back then.

The real boxing fans know how good a Prime Roy was and will remember him for that.

I like how he throws that Joe was "past his prime" in there as if it had any relevance to that fight.
