  • People thought Floyd could fight Pac without criticisms.

The thing is if Margarito beats Mosley and then Cotto in the rematch impressively, A lot of people will really pressure Floyd to fight Margarito but then again Floyd is a coward.

      • FINALLY it looks like mayweather is coming around and is going to take the winner of pacquiao v. hatton.

I REALLY REALLY REALLY HOPE that floyd fights manny.

Lets face it floyd v. hatton II will be pretty much the same result as floyd v. hatton I.

I see mayweather wants no tune-up fight (big mistake on floyd's part in my opinion) especially when getting in the ring with the sports best after (what will be) a year and a half layoff (at the earliest).

        I say pacman TKO's hatton.

So it looks like manny v. floyd in 09.

Corley had Mayweather hurt in, well I forget the round, but by the end of the round he had completely shot his load. Mayweather closed out that round stronger because Corley is not a good finisher (as evidenced in the Cotto fight as well). Pacquiao is a damn good finisher.

Would you agree that Pacquiao is an overall better fighter than Corley or

All I'm saying is that for some reason, southpaws give Mayweather problems. More so than any other style of fighter. It's a pattern, wouldn't you say?

I know all about "methodical" and the reason he is allowed to be methodical is because people fight at his pace. Problem is, Pacquiao doesn't fight at his opponent's pace, he forces a faster pace than what his opponent is comfortable at.

The straight punches of both guys is their best punches, but to say that Pacquiao would just jump in on Mayweather is not entirely accurate. Hatton jumps in without a jab, Pacquiao doesn't. Pacquiao uses a very educated southpaw jab. Reach does not = better jab necessarily, it's about timing and rhythm. Whoever establishes their rhythm first would have control of the fight.

As I said earlier, being in shape and being active are two very different things. A large part of Mayweather's income is making appearances at night clubs. All I'm saying is doing it in the gym is not a substitute for doing it in the ring.

As Hatton found out, to his obvious dismay, Mayweather is a hell of a lot stronger than he looks and he is strongest on the inside. He would be a lot stronger than Pac would having fought at the higher weights for much longer as well.

The speed thing, well, that's very debatable. I would still say that Mayweather has an obvious speed advantage. Pac may look faster because he throws actual flurries of punches but his punch speed is not as quick as Mayweather's.

Also, on Roach saying that the shoulder roll won't work with Pac, I think he may have missed a very important point here. Against a southpaw, it can be very difficult to use the shoulder roll effectively., but that's on a southpaw like Whitaker who keeps his right shoulder forward and never squares up. The problem with Pac fighting Mayweather if he is on the ropes will be that he will square up and any straight left that comes in can be countered by his own right either after he ducks down or off a left hook or roll.

Also, Pac would struggle to land anything like he did against Oscar. Oscar was using his classic high guard and trying to jab straight as he would against a righty. You need to keep the jab pushing down against a southpaw like Pac. Pac's jab is a range finder and more of a pawing jab which can easily be countered by pushing it down with your own jab and then shooting over the top with the counter jab. Because Oscar himself was square and his guard high it made Pac's left a very strong weapon, whereas if his right jab was being pushed down and Mayweather was not squaring up, which he wouldn't, then it means he could land his own jab over the top and set up his own straight right with the perfect angle and distraction right behind the jab.

On the jab again, one weapon that could also be a big advantage for Mayweather is the jab to the body. He has a very good one and sometimes forgets to use it, but I think it would be very effective against Pac. Of course Mayweather's body work in general is very good and we saw that Manny can be hurt to the body and if Mayweather made a point of going early to the body mixing up lead rights, jab's and the left, it could really take the steam out of Pac.

What I see making this closer than it normally would be is that Mayweather struggles innately with southpaws and also with the ring rust from inactivity it could make it quite close. Well, that is all we can hope for anyway. I would still prefer to see Pac in with Hatton first though.
read this post closely. if you know mayweather, then you know damn well he doesnt just beat opponents because hes "in shape" what a line of ****.

if oscar fought mayweather like he fought pac, he would have stopped him. Oscar was much sharper in the mayweather fight than he was in the pac fight.

              • What's with Mayweather Jr.? he's not even willing to prove he's the best.

He's a coward, DUCKED Margarito! Chickened out! he knows it!
PBF knows that Margarito is better than him.

If he can stand up against Margarito... even if he losses...
only then he will gain true respect! only then he can really say that he's the best.

Boxing fans have more respect to Miguel Cotto that Floyd Jr.!

If you're coming out... just come out Floyd! don't let people around you do the talking!

give your fans the respect they deserve.

                • I like Mayweather Jr. He's very skilled, a true tactician in the ring.
I was surprised when he refused to fight Margarito even when he's offered a great amount of money.

I hope if he ever comes back, and got beaten... he's inactivity won't be an excuse.

These goes to all Mayweather Jr. fans too.
I am too... a PBF fan... a disappointed one.

Funny just yesterday Ellerbee was saying Floyd was happy retired.

That's what Ellerbe does best, throw Floyd's name out there like everybody's dying to see him make a comeback, and then make a 180 degree turn and tells all the boxing people to stop using Floyd's name.

                      Pathetic...
