As far as talent goes : Cotto is still the best at 147lbs

In terms of actual skill and technical ability, I think Cotto is the best guy at 147lbs, even with the Margarito loss.

At 147lbs you basically got Cotto, Margarito, Williams, and the rest of the guys are second stringers. Maybe Clottey, but I'm still not sure how good (or bad) this guy is because he hasn't been able to showcase his abilities to their fullest potential.

Margarito is a walking brick wall. He fights like a robot, just winging **** at you in pure volume to break you down over the course of the fight. He's a bit of a better boxer than most give him credit for, but he's basically an average fighter with an above average work rate and chin.

Williams isn't really even in the picture at 147lbs. He's doing his best Roy Jones impression by jumping up in weight, and fighting low-class opposition for title straps to make his name.

Judah moved down to 140lbs thankfully.

Oscar retired and was damn near shot anyways.

Mosley is at the tail end of his career and I think Margarito is going to wreck him next month.

All that's left is Cotto, and in my eyes, he's the most technically skilled fighter of the Welterweight division. If you've been following him at all you can see the amount of experience he's gained just in the last 2 years alone.

honestly i think cotto beats mayweather and williams to, margarito is obviously is a different story but we will see if he avenges the loss in the summer

I don't think Cotto beats Mayweather.

I can see him pulling a Quintana on Williams, staying in his chest all night and boxing from the inside to a decision though.

As for Margarito, I think Tony takes him again. It's just a horrible style matchup for Cotto, Margarito's chin will not cave to anything Cotto throws, and the more distance Cotto creates between them, the more tired he gets.

That said, if he could work on his stamina and get it up to the ungodly level of Margarito's, he could easily outbox him.

I'm not talking career record, I mean ability. Personally, Cotto's record is lacking big names, and he did lose to a C level guy in Margarito. Fact is fact.

But in terms of actual ability, he's head and shoulders above the rest. The old saying "he doesn't do anything great, but he does everything good" applies to him.

respectable post.. i do disagree with the comments regarding paul williams.. he's moving up in weight because the main guys at welterweight cotto and margarito wont fight him.. either the timing isnt right, or its their promoter, or they dont wanna fight him

Yeah good post, I agree with you on all points. As much as I want Cotto to win the rematch against Tony I don't think he will. Sucks because his legacy will be tarnished due to the 2 Marge losses. I also would not want him to receive another beating and knowing him he's not gonna stop till there's literally nothing left just like the first fight. Urgh. Here's to hoping he pulls it out though...
