yeah im a big zaghe fan but imo in terms of what thye have accomplished overall there is no doubt in my mind that manny is no 1.

i dont think losses early on in the career should have so much stock in them, personally i think it only makes you a better champ and a more dominant fighter (see marvin hagler, mann as well). if zaghe was to take on and beat dawson the i think he has a chance to become p4p 1 but until then he will have to make do with being no 2.

So all I have to do is beat people with scary sound nicknames and I can be #1 P4P!?!?!??

You make a strong point regarding Calzaghe's right to the #1 spot. A common argument is that Pacman's competition have been closer to their prime than the opponents of Calzaghe. However, Morales III (maybe even II), Barrera, and even DLH are examples of Pacquiao lacing up against past-their-prime warriors. To me it really is a toss-up. The moment I begin to argue the case for Pacman, I realize I can argue the exact same case for Joe Clazaghe. Pacquiao is favored by the general public because he's the little engine that could. He's the people's champ. Whereas Joe has long come off as being inaccessible, removed, and a bit snobbish. HBO did their best to present Joe as a "meet you in the streets" community guy like Hatton is for the people around Manchester. Just the opposite is true though. Joe has always been very private and very removed from the Welsh common folk. I think Joe's next fight, if there is one, will make my mind up as to the #1 and #2 spots. But if anyone doesn't have a difficult time making their mind up about the situation, that "anyone" is not a true fan of the game.

                  Ahhh, excuses.

Benny, interesting thread, but it'll never work on BoxingScene. Nobody can adhere to "no excuses", ever. They will argue their opinions til the cows come home.
