Ahemmm
First of all, the term "great white hope" certainly DID apply when it was first used. That's because it was unclear at the time if a black man would ever be allowed to fight for the heavyweight championship of the world. Jack Johnson was lucky enough to get the shot, and after he grabbed it, white people wanted it back desperately. It WAS a racial issue. How long did it take before another black man was even ALLOWED TO CHALLENGE for the heavyweight championship after Jack Johnson finally lost it? Over 2 decades!!!
As for your "who's the next Great Black Hope": boxing certainly isn't what it used to be. I would imagine that the Great Black Hope that you're referring to is playing football or basketball, and isn't worried about the Klitschko brothers. Sorry, but the heavyweight championship of the world doesn't hold that prestige anymore, or enough money to convince most people to get punched in the head for a living instead of performing in other sports. And deep down, even you know the division is garbage right now.
Please stop hyping these Ivan Drago robots. By the way, didn't Vitali already admit to former steroid abuse? Damn, they did really wanna make him Drago didn't they? I bet they had him running on treadmills inclined to resemble a wall while monitoring his heart beat and brain waves. What a joke.
Personally, as a boxing fan, I do like the brothers, but I can't find anyone besides Ukrainians or Germans (who indeed should feel proud of their boys) and white racists who really care about their careers or about the wretched heavyweight division...and this includes a lack of care on the part of the "Great WHITE" boxing analysts of our day.Comment
