No I didn't miss your point Tunney. What you are talking about is the "trend" so to speak; specifically, to act, dress, and talk a certain way these days. That is correct when we talk about, for example, white people who listen to rap. But what we are talking about is the failure of mostly Americans, as far as I know, to acknowledge the white parent to a mixed individual. Again I'll use ***** as an example. All of these people on the news and in America in general, refer to him as the first black president. Fox news has criticized the **** out of him saying things like, "the only reason he gets attention is because he's black."
Does that sound like they want to make him seem "cooler" than a white president? No, it's just another way for them to create distinction.Comment

You still don't understand. Because white people have been portrayed in a negative way by the media and entertainment industry, people are not proud to be white anymore, many are even ashamed of it. But it's considered okay to be proud of being black!
If Barack went around saying "I'm proud of my white European heritage" some people would call him a ****. He wouldn't have had a chance of winning the election. But if he says "I'm proud of my black African heritage" that would be COOL, and make him more popular!
It's better to be black than to be white nowadays - black is considered "politically correct" and "cool" while white is not...
You know what I'm sayin'?Comment

Tunney here you go. Listen, I understand what you are saying. But in this situation you talking about, your incorrect. You still don't understand. It works both ways, because ***** has already been called a ****** and a *********, do you think he would have gotten that type of attention had he said he was (as you put it) "proud of his European heritage?"
Tunney, you are giving in to the "media" as you put it, by bothering yourself with this.Last edited by krispy kreme; 04-01-2009, 08:06 PM.Comment

I agree about the ****** part - nowadays it's considered even less cool to be a ****** than to be a white person. It was a worse disadvantage for ***** to have a ****** father than too have a white mother.
Again, though, it's largely because of the very negative image we have of ******s from the media/entertainment industry, even worse than the negative image they give us of white people.Comment

How do they give white people a negative image?Comment

White people are usually portrayed as anything but cool.
Perfect example was "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman" - the native men were always portrayed as noble, honest, loyal, kind, wise, etc., while the white men were portrayed as ******, shallow, prejudiced, ignorant, weak, etc. The only good men in that series were always natives, or a couple of times black, never once was a white man portrayed as a good person.
White kids in the 90s grew up with a negative self-image. That's why a lot of young white guys want to be black, like our friend Ree****yaluss on boxingscene, and try to talk and behave like black guys. It's considered "cool" to be black or native, but it's not considered cool to be white.Comment

How are white people "less cool" I'm extremely proud of my white side, I class myself as Indonesian BECAUSE it's the culture and country I was born, raised and the language I speak here.White people are usually portrayed as anything but cool.

They aren't portraying white people in the media negatively you're either paranoid or looking far to deeply into this, For every example of white "negatively" when White people are apparently potrayed comically there are the same amount of black people in the media portrayed badly.Comment

Because sadly, race determines who "Pullcounter" and many others root for. And you never say anything positive about the white fighters, and always discredit them.
If you want to end racism, start with yourself.Comment
