The fight makes a lot of sense for Froch... a win over Kessler will give him serious credibility and a KO win over Kessler would put him one up on Calzaghe, something he would enjoy immensely.

Of course, Kessler is favourite and I suspect even Froch would admit that, but the guy is a warrior, he wants to fight the best. If he doesn't fight Taylor and he doesn't fight Kessler, who exactly DOES he fight? If he loses to Kessler (as I think he will) so be it, at least he tried.

credit to Froch for taking this fight if the news is true. He could have opted for an easier defense but straight into a unification fight, he has balls of steel.

But doesn't Froch have 6 months before he has to fight Taylor, his mandatory? If so then there's plenty of time for a Kessler fight which BTW appears to go ahead in Britain (if it comes off that is.)
My understanding was that neither fighter could take another fight in the interim if Taylor decides to enforce his mandatory status.

I've also been hearing that Froch will have to defend twice against mandatories before taking another fight, since he picked up the belt when it was vacant.

i dont know what to make of froch, he seems like a good genuine guy, at first i thought he was just trying to make a name for himself with the constant calzaghe talk. then once he won the WBC belt i thought he would move onto other fights vs fighters like pantera, bika maybe even bigger name like taylor or bute. but no he carries on calling out calzaghe, at this point it sounds like hes become obsessed with getting JC in the ring, alot like witter did with hatton. then suddenly there talk of him fighting the most dangerous fighter in the 168/175 weiht class, and i can't help but like the guy again!! lol!

imo kess wins this quite comfortably, froch may hurt kess, he may even score a KO but imo he is too slow and only if kess gets caught going into th punch do i see him losing. it would actaully be a very good fight to watch, it would be interesting to see just how good kess's chin really is.

i thought froch might take on taylor first though, a fighter who has been KO'd and a fight with him would allow froch the right sort of time to recuperate as well.

This is all just hot air, probably a negotiating tactic to get a bigger split from Taylor, or to convince him to come to the UK.

Funny strategy, because Taylor himself is the name and financial draw in the division and could probably sign a fight with Bute or Kessler at any time.
              co-sign

WBC now requires 2 mandatories when a boxer wins a vacant belt.

Karo Murat (Sauerland boxer) is fighting an Eliminator for the #2 spot. Hennessey would have to get the OK from them as well.

Not saying this fight cannot be made, but certainly not for the WBC belt.

Seems a bit harsh on Froch since Taylor opted to fight Lacy instad of Froch, but with the alphabet boys anything can happen. As we all know Kessler was forced to fight a mandatory after winning the vacant WBA belt against Danilo Haussler who mysteriuosly was ranked no.1 by WBA and no. 14 by the European Boxing Union. So stranger things has happened.

Carl is no less likeable than he was before he won the WBC and stated that he'd rather fight Pavlik than Holy Joe. That is, very likeable, hard working, a good guy, easy to root for. He's just playing whatever card he can play to try and get Calzaghe in the ring with him, that's the business he's in.
Take the Joe-tinted goggles off. You embarrass yourself.
