I really think Prime Roy Jones has a chance to beat Tyson.

You know those Discovery channel shows on Great White Sharks? And the slow motion footage of the sharks going crazy on a baited line, or whale carcass?

Thats EXACTLY what watching prime Tyson is like. The ferocity and power were just insane....

Prime Roy versus Prime Tyson? Haha Jones would never have taken that fight and a prime Tyson would have been on him all night. The plan you are laying out wouldn't work because Jones wouldn't try to go to his body and he didn't have the technical boxing skill to outbox him.

What Jones liked to do was have his opponents stay at a safe distance where he could potshot them. Tyson wouldn't give him that safe distance.

The physical size difference between the two is astonishing. Tyson's thigh is the same size as Jones' waist.

Jones is older, i think. They fought during the same generation, so Jones was well in his 20's and Tyson was in his early 20's. There's no way that Jones would stand a chance against a beast like that.

The only shot Jones has is the stay away long enough to control the pace of the fight. Unlikley though. If Jones can get KO'd by Antonio Tarver.....twice, then i don't think he can stand up to Tyson.
Jones is 39/40 Tyson is now 42 years old. Tyson turned pro at 18 and was fighting in championship fights while Jones was still an amature. Roy had his first fight in May of 1989 at that tiem Tyson was already Undisputed Heavy Wieght Champion. Tyson at his best 1986 - 1990 weighed about 215-225 lbs. Jones came into the fight with Ruiz at 193 lbs. Honestly Jones weighing his heaviest in his prime I dunno. Jones inhis prime was a light Heavy Weight topped out at 175. Going up in weight as we all know is a big thing even for a guy in his prime factor that in with Tyson just being a animal in the ring and you have a 1st round KO in my book.

Tyson would have the fight won before the stare down. As long as Tyson took the fight seriously and trained hard for it Jones would get demolished in mere seconds....Lefty

Hopefully he meant Prime Roy Jones Jr. vs. Tyson right now.

Maybe we should suggest the Thread-Starter apologize just like Max Kellerman had to after he said Roy would beat Joe Frazier in his prime. This "Roy beats" Prime Tyson is even worse.

Now look I am not saying this is a good chance, but I think jones would be a live underdog in his prime.
You should check out this fight with former light heavyweight champ, Bob Foster, against Joe Frazier as a reference.

Old Bobby Foster thought he could contend with heavyweights too, and then he got his ass "smoked" by Joe Frazier in only two rounds.

Jones is an over rated bum.

                J/K

But some are obviously over rating his abilities.

If he did that silly dancing **** in the ring with Mike he'd get his skinny legs snapped.

Why are we even discussing this... I'll never know.

I would also add to your response to the poster that what many forget is that a Prime Tyson trained by Rooney was fit to fight 12 full rounds. Rooney had sparring sessions for Mike that would mimic tough fights and force him to go at least 10 hard rounds or so I hear. I've heard Mike's favorite sparring sessions were between him and Olive McCall. Of course, the downside to this all, in the long run is that Mike would have been spent by 32, if not sooner. But, to be the best you have to train like the best. I once heard the original plan was to have Mike retire before 30; like 29, and after beating Marciano's record. Makes sense if true.

I think some people are impressed with how good Jones looked before he had been hit. As soon as he got hit, he was never the same.

But seriously, Tyson wouldn't just sit at medium range and let Jones take him to school. He'd be in his ass throwing short combinations to his ribs and throat.
