i wouldnt really think this fight is a fix but the one part in the fight that really bothers me is with 1:16 left in the seventh round when DLH's gets out of the corner that hes getting beat up in, grabs the ropes (has the perfect escape route to turn around pacman and corner him) and goes back in the corner and keeps getting pounded.. he keeps going in the corners to get beat up. and earlier merchant said "it looks like de la hoyas trying to set a trap but mannys too smart"... something seems fishy just about that part of the fight.
Pacquiao-DLH being a fix..

I just remember thinking, "nobody has ever treated Oscar like this, and now a midget is doing it. This is so embarrassing."
I remember when I said it was embarrassing, not 2 seconds later Larry Merchant says all loud "THIS IS GETTING EMBARRASSING"
I laughed for like 3 minutes straight at thatComment

I noticed this too, maybe he wanted the fight to get stopped right there?i wouldnt really think this fight is a fix but the one part in the fight that really bothers me is with 1:16 left in the seventh round when DLH's gets out of the corner that hes getting beat up in, grabs the ropes (has the perfect escape route to turn around pacman and corner him) and goes back in the corner and keeps getting pounded.. he keeps going in the corners to get beat up. and earlier merchant said "it looks like de la hoyas trying to set a trap but mannys too smart"... something seems fishy just about that part of the fight.Comment

I'm still waiting to hear what Oscar claims really happened that night.
But, my opinion is he was tired, weak, and probably suffering from a painful shoulder which he, as the proud fighter he is, was not willing to admit.
He could've play acted like he was hurt and had his corner throw in the towel,
but he opted to continue despite what his corner and the ref were threatening to do before stopping it.
I honestly think he just couldn't go on taking anymore punishment.
Didn't help that Manny was on point all night either.
As I've said in the past, he avoided getting knocked down and unconscious (KTFO), which would've elevated Manny's status even more than it is.Comment

This reminds me of the HBO boxing movie called, UNDEFEATED starring John Leguizmano or whatever his name is.
It's about a boxer who is coming up, wins a world title and his promoter asks him to throw a fight saying, "If you win, who cares, you're the champ. But if the young kid wins, then we'll get the people excited about a rematch. Then of course you win and then the kid will get his rematch. Boom, 3 fights, 120 million from merchandize, revenue, PPV etc, and we're all rich, everything else is just dinner conversation".Comment

Fix
I really do think this fight was a fix. It wasn't even suppose to be a close match and for it to go the way it did, just made it more obvious to me that it was a fix. HBO set this fight up for oscar to lose. What other way for oscar to lose than to act like if he was completely shot. There was no way he could've lost a close boxing match or an all out war. He had to go out taking a beating. He probably took more shots than he wanted to but like i have said before he took the shots in the best place to avoid any serious injury. After that seventh round i knew it was a fix and i was pissed that i had thrown my money away to watch that crap. I would've been better ordering a WWE fight, at least they make their fights competitive.
If you really step back and think about what has happened to all of the best HBO fighters that were suppose to be the face of boxing it s obvious the fight was fixed. After cotto lost and williams HBO really had no one else to carry the torch. Margarito doesn't speak english and pavlik just got his ass handed to him by hopkins. Oscar has always fought the best and has always looked for the best challenges. Why all of a sudden would he pick on some 3 weight classes below him?
Anyways we're better off with oscar out of the picture. I don't know whats they are planning to do with manny because he can't stay at welter and be competitive unless everyone else takes a dive. Moving him to 140 only offers 1 decent fight with hatton. He's gonna need to go back to 135 to make the big fights that he has a chance of winning but they won't be huge money makers such as a cotto or mayweather fight. It's going to be interesting to see what happens in the next couple years.Comment
