And you're argument about the UFC has no relevance to boxing. They don't even share the same demographics.

And please do some research before you write a sport off as being 'mindless meathead entertainment.'

I bet many people said this about boxing during its infancy.

Also, boxing is a much easier sport to understand than MMA is, by far. So 'the average idiot' as you call them, should be much more drawn to boxing, with your logic.
A fellow Bay Area Head huh? I might know you. LOL.

First of all, Mike Tyson is only portrayed as an animal with impulse and psychological issues. In no way did they relate Tyson's behavior to the sport of boxing. People were only captivated with him because of his brutish style and all the controversy that surrounds Mike. ie: "meat-head"

Second of all, UFC is relevant to boxing because the competition between PPV figures and spectator supporters. Not to mention almost half of MMA fighters train in conventional boxing to improve striking. So boxing has to be relevant if MMA fighters are training in boxing as well. (demographics)

Third of all, during boxing's "infancy", which was damn near 200 years ago, was the most brutal of all sports. Even more brutal than MMA by today's standards. Even though it was thought of as primitive, it was still regarded as scientific. The English developed it in that manner.

Fourth of all Boxing is far more complicated to understand than MMA. That's why MMA is a combat sport that incorporates differnce styles and disciplines. It allows a wider range of variances...or loopholes.

Fifth of allI am a martial artist who currently holds a belt and am still active and teaches AND a boxer. And defined as an original "mixed martial artist" before the whole UFC craze. So i think i might know what i'm talking about.

Sixth of all, "Your" is your....."You're" is You are

i'm not taking anything away from MMA nor am i disrespecting the practioners. This is just how i see things.

      Peace.

      Yaddada Yaddada?

On the flip side of all the boxing is dying talk throughout history, is the "This is the guy that can save baxing talk". It is like the same cliche only from a different prespective.

1 person can not save boxing, because it takes 2 people to make an awe inspiring great fight that captures the masses imaginations. Unless your name is Mike Tyson.

          I hear ya bruh. Respect.

I was refering to boxing being well established into today's popular culture. Much more than MMA, which is a relatively new sport, and has yet to give birth to a true SuperStar in its sport.

Although, I do have to agree that boxing is more of a technical sport to watch, as a spectator, than MMA. There are so many more variables when it comes to MMA, as you know, and one has to understand all of the different aspects that go into MMA, like wrestling, muay thai, boxing, and jiu jitsu, to name a few.

In boxing, its easy to understand for a spectator...two fighters strike each other, using only their hands, until one is declared a winner, either by points, or by knockout.

fighters like joe calzaghe who babysits a belt for 9 years without fighting another beltholder is what's wrong with boxing.

promoters like frank warren who keep giving his fighters easy fights to keep the dough flowing and not take a risk is what's wrong with boxing.

              the truth.

Save boxing from what? I'm so sick of this "boxing is dying" bull****. We just had a blockbuster PPV last weekend and now boxing is dying. I'm not buying that.

No argument here. I agree with you 100%

Yes, boxing will always be a part of pop culture because it's been established historically.

Yes, there are waay more en****** involved in MMA, more "freestyle" or freedom if you will.

Yes, boxing is easier to understand as far as the point of boxing. You know, knockdown your opponent as many times as you can and the one still standing is the winner. But as far as the allure of boxing, that's difficult for the average person to grasp. The technical perspective as you forementioned.

This is why boxing is going to have a long arduious road back to the main stage. But i have faith boxing will captivate audiences the waay it did throughout the late 60's through the 70's and then on the early 80's

^ Agreed. I see what you meant about boxing being a bit harder to grasp, in that respect. Good point !
