The real reason is every major fight taking place on pay per view, unlike every other major sport. The super bowl for christ sakes is on free tv. other sports are easier to follow although inferior. all of the other things mentioned are just things people who are already fans dislikeComment

This is not always true. The PAC-10 used to be the place to be if you wanted to wrestle in college in the west. Nowadays, with the abuse of Title IX, there is technically no more wrestling in the PAC-10. Arizona State wrestling is still around, but they're living off of donations and "bake sales" and are in no way part of ASU Athletic program.
I read an interesting piece in Ring today. It was mostly about race and boxing in this day and age. Teddy Atlas brought up a great point though. He basically said that if boxing weren't so much of a sport for ********** and more of a "white" type of sport, there would be endless funds to keep gyms open.
I think it's less racial and more understanding and knowledge of the sport.Comment

Yeah, that's a real problem then, that's terrible if that's the case, because they were amazing fights, those are the sort fights which recruits new fans to the sport and brings a lot of old fans back. Not simply seen, but the right types of fights have to have the major promotions.
Vazquez Marquez I had 0 promotion. Maybe an ad on LA radio here and there, but other than that, absolutely nothing. They didn't even have t shirts for sale at the fight. The third fight was just almost as bad as far as the promotion.
I got a little card in the mail announcing the fight.
Those are the fights that you don't feel ripped off paying to see.
HBO is only interesting in selling DLH ppvs.Comment

None of this garbage was around when I was a kid, you could just turn on the TV and watch Ali, Hagler ect.........but that is gone and boxing is dead.
