Consensus Says Beristain Likely Over-Trained De La Hoya

The consensus among several observers in the sport is that Nacho Beristain likely overdid the training regimen for Oscar De La Hoya, leading to the Golden Boy's demise against Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas this past Saturday. [details]

Damn, this gives DLH a reason to fight on.

There's really only 1 way to find out if this is true.

If it's true that DLH really only gained 2 lbs on from the weigh in to fight night, then I would say over-training might be the reason.

Either way, Pac forced him into submission - that doesnt change.

How can you be shot if you've fought a split decision against Mayweather a year ago..

He fought Forbes at 150 and it was OK..

I Think Nacho is to blame here.

the fact oscar only rehydrated to 147 does indicate overtraining. he looked like he lost muscle to make weight which took away from his power. and we all knew pac would have the speed advantage. DLH didn't have a chance. I was still shocked watching DLH get beat down by the Pacman. he could go out on a better note than this tho. he should hook up wit mayweather for one more fight and then call it quits on a better performance. he isn't as diminished as he seemed in the pacquiao fight.

I dont think Oscar is shot, I didnt while I was watching the fight... he couldnt get off because of the constant movement from Manny... and it also seemed that his weight had never been that low in what? 10 years? and hes 35 doing that... that definitely had everything to do with his performance... along with Mannys speed, Oscar just couldnt do anything... Put him in front of Tito, and he would still fight like Oscar..

It's also the footwork and head movement.. Everytime Oscar throws his jab and power shots, Manny is already on the other side of the ring.
