I like him as a person because he is a great guy who does lots for charity (and he was born in London, which is where I was born) and I was impressed to see him beating young World Champions such as Jeff Lacy and Kessler when he was an old man (35).

However, I feel that his promoter has maybe protected him too much just to keep that amazing unbeaten record going.
he still needs a win over a great prime fighter. the best prime fighter that he has beaten is Kessler and the jury is still out on him cuz Kessler himself has 0 great names on his resume. Calzaghe needs to beat Dawson in order to solidify himself as a great fighter. He is barely ATG at the moment.

Not many undefeated, Undisputed World Champions of over a decade can be called "complete and utter garbage".

I agree that he is over-rated, though. Just because he has beaten the likes of Eubank, Mikkel Kessler, Mitchell, Bernard Hopkins, Reid and Roy Jones Jr. does not make him a great fighter.

However, I enjoyed it when he pretty much ended Lacy's career by devastating the guy physically.
Ok, you're right that was prolly a bit harsh. I give him probably the best work rate for his weight class but i don't give him special credit for defending his belt against who he did. How people are saying he is better than Lewis beats me. At 37 years of age he gve a prime Vitali a chance to become HW champion of the world and look what Vitali has ended up to be. Now look at what Kessler or Lacy have become. Can't really compare them. I also put Ricky Hatton slightly ahead of Calzaghe for taking bigger risks. Had Ricky beaten Mayweather he would be considered the second coming today. But he took a chance against a prime Mayweather. Joe Calzaghe has no defining fights, none!

You just joined this month it says.

Funny how you just bumped a Lacy thread from years ago.

I should think so, seeing as that in Calzaghe's first ever fight at Light-Heavyweight he beat Bernard Hopkins.

Pavlik did not do so well against that racist criminal Hopkins.

              How is Hopkins racist?

              That is nonsense.

Do you not think "whiteboy" is a racial epithet?

What if I went up to a black in the street and said something along the lines of "Wassup blackboy?"

The coppers would be on my arse like flies round excrement, and rightly so.

i think some ppl are discrediting calzaghes level of comp - robin reid, omar sheika, charles brewer, byron mitchell. this is ot a bad level of comp faced and thats without adding the respectable names of kess, eubank, lacy and hopkins.

agree with danc that as a fighter he is one of the best around but his resume does not reflect his talent. imo a win over dawson would confirm ATG status, as a zaghe fan im really hoping he goes for a winnable fight.

imo the best british boxer of recent times; if you were to break down his style no other brit boxer comes close in terms of what joe brings to the table, especially when considering his stamina, output, chin and ring nous. in terms of his resume you can make the argument that maybe lewis has faced better comp but imo its by a smaller margin than some ppl think.
