although Vic has improved skill and still have power at 115, and Gerry aint that big a guy and have slowed down with age, I don't think he can overwhelm Gerry, with Penalosa's defensive skills and toughness...

IMHO it will be a good fight and VIC is BIG Enough that Gerry can get a Big payday out of it...

      hope this is made...
Gonzalez never landed the shots he did against Vazquez when he was in against Penalosa but Penalosa was an easier fight for him up until he got caught by a beautiful body shot.

As I said, maybe he won't overwhelm Penalosa but he'd keep Penalosa on the defensive, he has enough power and awkwardness to do that.

But you see Penalosa had always been a DEFENSIVE COUNTER PUNCHER fighter....always waiting and waiting specially now that he got older (as oppossed to when he was still in his prime where his stlye would depend on the match....he can go defensive and offensive as well )

but being on the defensive does not necessarily mean your giving too much in favor of the other fighter... see Vic vs. nonito= he was rushing in the other stepping back leaving a trail of left hook and then wham..HISTORY

The thing with Darchinyan is that he keeps his opponents on the defensive without them having opportunities to counter.

The difference between Donaire and Penalosa is footwork, Donaire is a much more mobile fighter, meaning he was moving a lot more on Darchinyan, in and out, Penalosa doesn't do that. If you're going to stand there with hands high and try to counterpunch Darchinyan with angles, you're in trouble because he doesn't give you those angles to counterpunch with.

            Bro are you serious?

Penalosa totally destroy Darch if they fight within a year. Gerry is a tank all of his losses were againts Runners. He eats up power punching stalker. Darch is naturally smaller and his style is a total disaster for gerry.

This fight isnt made so we cant put up a bet for now but if it gets made I'll double your points if darch wins.

As I said, maybe not overwhelm but he'd keep Penalosa on the defensive, I'm aware that he's a counterpuncher but Darchinyan has a way of getting his opponents fighting outside their comfort zone and he's been in with one of the best counterpunchers in the game, Mijares and didn't get countered.

Anyways, if the fight gets made, I'll put points on Darchinyan but it probably won't happen.

What could be the reason why it wouldnt happen? Is gerry Big risk-low reward type of a fight for VIC?

Because he probably has more money to make elsewhere, he's fighting Arce in a few months, he's been talking about moving past 118 straight to 122 to fight Vazquez, Montiel would probably make him more money, I just don't see Penalosa in his plans right now.

the reason Gonzalez did not land those BIG Shots is because of Penalosa's defensive skills, as a Pinoy we know how good Gerry was technically during his hay day and it was a bit of a surprise and revelation seeing Johnny with his size & youth advantage totally out boxing gerry that well ....

Gerry vs Vic would be a good fight, but I will give my Man Gerry the advantage...

I know Penalosa is a better defensive fighter than Vazquez but the fight was going much easier for Gonzalez than it did against Vazquez.

We'll just agree to disagree, if the fight happens, I'm going with Darchinyan.
