why not? GERRY was once a super flyweight Champion and VIC is now the toast of the Division..... of course the fight would have to be in BANTAMWEIGHT division...your thoughts guys and PWILISSSSSSSS no nuthuging...serious opinions because both have the following here in BS

What Penalosa has going for him is that he's used to fighting at 118 but he doesn't really have the style to trouble Darchinyan, Darchinyan is the harder puncher IMO and we've been seeing a much smarter and crisper Darchinyan lately, dating back to the Kirilov fight and I think he could be just as physically strong as Penalosa so I think Darchinyan just overwhelms him with big shots.Comment

How about Gerry's underarted technical boxing skills? would you think it could have a major factor in Gerry's favor?...I mean if PONCE DE LEON's power punches was negated by Gerry and he is also by far a better, bigger and more fearsome knockout artist than DARCHINYAN imo.,would you think VIC has better one to offer on the table than PONCE?Comment

Penalosa has good boxing skills but I'm not sure if they are better than what we have seen from Darchinyan in his last couple of fights so it's not a major factor for Penalosa IMO.
Ponce De Leon could be a harder puncher but he's not as technically sound as Darchinyan, there's more method to Darchinyan's madness now, Ponce De Leon is a wild fighter without much technique, Darchinyan could look wild at times but he has much better technique and that could play a factor in punching power and De Leon was throwing a lot of shots against Penalosa which could have taken some snap out of his punches.
And Darchinyan has a way of making his opponents fight outside of their comfort zone which is what he did against Kirilov and Mijares, I think he could do the same to Penalosa.Comment

However I still do believe that the Ponce De Leon that Gerry fought is far more dangerous than the current Vic. If Ponce did not scare the wits out of Gerry, I think Vic could not do the same either...
I like Vic also but you see he lost to Nonito by a single well placed counter punch.. A punch which can be deliverd by Gerry in all places and with relatively more lethal effect...
But Im not saying Vic cannot blast the hell out of a good counter puncher(like what we saw with Mijares)....but you see VIC has the "tyson effect".If your scared of him even before the bell starts he'll blast you to kingdom come..I already saw a lot of his fights prior ot the DONAIRE tiff...and I believe NONITO was not scared of him....He stuck to his game plan and lo and behold VIC swayed like a drunken master....
One more thing....GERRY never was ktfo not even once in his career. Even when he fought BIG punchers such as PONCE and JHONNY....
I like also VIC as a fighter and he is exciting but my point is if Gerry was NOT scared of PONCE before, then why should he be scared of VIC and being that so, I think Gerry has a good chance of beating if not KTFO VIC beacuse he is a superb Counterpuncher who is not scared unlike MIJARES....
That being said I believe this will be a good fight for both guys...For Gerry a good farewell fight for his storied career... For VIC a Fight which could usher him in the Divsion of the BIG BOYS and BIG MONEY...
A win over GERRY is a great way to announce his arrival to the division and could set up BIGGER fights with RAFAEL or perhaps IZZy..
But I still think GERRY would KTFO him...

I never said he'd scare Penalosa, I'm just saying he'd overwhelm him with his punches that come with full force at different angles.
Again, he seems to be a much better, more controlled fighter now than he was against Donaire and I feel that Donaire is perhaps a bigger puncher than Penalosa with 1 punch, Donaire is really a natural 115 pounder fighting at 112 so I wouldn't be surprised if Donaire hit harder with 1 shot, Penalosa has good power though.
The majority of boxing fans and experts were saying the same thing when Darchinyan fought Mijares, he'd get beaten by a counterpuncher, he'd get countered all night etc. but as we all saw Darchinyan manhandled Mijares, Mijares is one of the best counterpunchers in the sport, a better counterpuncher than Penalosa.
Mijares wasn't scared of him, I saw nothing that indicated Mijares was scared of Darchinyan, in fact, he seemed supremely confident before the fight, maybe even overconfident, Darchinyan just has a way of making his opponents fight the fight that he wants them to fight which is what he did to Kirilov and Mijares, he did it also to some degree against Z Gorres, he's become a much better fighter after his loss to Donaire.Comment

Yes i think MIJARES did... sometimes you know PEOPLE would tend to ACT BRAVE thought deep inside they're scared as hell so they psyche themselves up...BUT the MOMENT he tasted VIC powers on the first canto... BAM!!! all his IOTA of COURAGE left him and he went to the defensive... which will benefit a fighter like VIC immensely who comes in THROWS HIS POWER PUNCHES WITHOUT REGARD to his own safety...yeah i admit HE impoved a lot since the donaire loss but will these improvement change the VIC of the old? I guess he has improved. by being patient in his offense. HE doesnt rush in as he is used to...BUT not ON HIS DEFENSE... VIC IS STILL VIC...powerful yet akward and susceptible to BIG COUNTERS..
I guess we might have different opinion, your opinion is as good as mine...
But do you think it has a good potential of being a a GOOD fight? It could usher VIC in the BIG BOYS DIVISION and BIG MONEY FIGHTS as well as should he beat GERRY it would be a loud announcement to the divsion and could set up fights with..JUAN MA, RAFA or who know IZZY(though of course he is one weight higher).
But i still do think GERRY would still clock VICK with a left straight or a hook to the chin... AND HE WOULD GO TO LA LA LAND ONCE more (without being hurt of course as he said)...Comment
