A Cotto rematch is fine in my book. Cotto deserves another crack at him.

I'm just simply listing the timetable and Williams was not in a position to turn down a rematch even if he wanted to (which he didn't). Margarito the mandatory is the one who was looking at other opportunities like winning a IBF belt against a guy he already defeated. And then beating Cotto for the WBA belt.

It was a shortcut to the top, a 6 foot 2 tall shortcut.

Here is a timetable of how things went down following the Margarito-Williams fight:

      1. Margarito said that a rematch wasn't necessary because he thought he beat Williams.

      2. A few weeks later, Margarito changed his tune and subliminally admitted that he lost the fight saying that he didn't start out busy enough and that he will start workin' earlier next time.

      3. He then took that new game plan and took it out on world beater Glen Johnson even though he was Williams's WBO mandatory and could've enforced his position at anytime.

      4. He then completely abonded his WBO mandatory spot and went after the IBF title against a guy he already defeated and made cry the first time around. Williams made a optional defense against Quintana and lost but got his title back with a first round Ko. You know, actually avenging his loss...something Tijuana does not do.

      5. During the Margarito/Cintron post-fight interview, he didn't mention Williams and called out Cotto saying, "he must fight me".

      6. After beating Cotto, Goosen made a 4million dollar offer to him and The 8 Million Dollar Man turned it down and now accepted a less risky fight for half as much money, 2mill.

CONCULSION: Mayweather turning down 8mill to fight Margarito, for a less risky fight for the linear title and still making 8mill and going on to fight for 20 mill in The World Awaits = Good Business Decision. Margarito turning down 4mill for a 2million dollar fight = Bad business decision.

The Difference: Mayweather COULD'VE beaten Margarito but chose the bigger money, less risky fights. And Margarito CANNOT beat Williams and therefore chose the less risky fights for less money.

Wait a minute, I guess that means that Margarito actually did make a good business decision. . Scratch out the above in blue font.
Good post but for the record, he fought Golden Johnson, not Glenn Johnson, who is a LHW who recently fought Chad Dawson.

Even though there is no real proof for my timetable as this isn't a ****cide case and there is no DNA evidence to back up anything, I do have a article that points out everything from points 1,2, and 3 above:

Things didn't turn out the way I had hoped. But I'm right back on track, so I'm looking forward to this fight and then fighting the [Cotto-Mosley] winner and maybe Paul Williams down the road."

A slow start cost Margarito against Williams as he fell behind early and could not make up the ground. He said he won't let that happen again against Johnson, the Cotto-Mosley winner or Williams if they fight again.

"You always learn from every fight," he said. "It's always different things to learn from every fight. I now know that I have to start fast, that I have to throw a lot of punches, and that's what I intend to do in my next fight.
            "

After the Williams fight, Margarito was convinced he had won and was vocal about it. In the months that have passed, he has eased up on the rhetoric after watching video of the fight.

"After watching the tape, I noticed how slow I started," he said. "The guy was throwing punches that were not effective. They were just a lot of punches. So all I have to do is do the same thing -- come out from the first bell and then start throwing punches no matter where they land or how they land.

"At the time when I was fighting the fight, I thought I was doing very well and I thought I was well ahead in the fight. But once I saw it on tape, I can see where people would say maybe the first few rounds I lost because he was throwing a lot of punches. Not that he was doing any damage with them but he was throwing a lot of punches. I can see where the judges would be impressed by that and I got into a hole which I didn't know I was in. I can see why he [won]. I have no problem with that."

mind you the very owner of this site has seen the petition

              2. A few weeks later, Margarito changed his tune and subliminally admitted that he lost the fight saying that he didn't start out busy enough and that he will start workin' earlier next time.
              and your point is?

no he took the fight that was offered to him since Williams, Peterson and Goossen all made it known they wanted the biggest fights out there and as soon as Aug of 2007 they were talking about guys like Judah and Cintron not Margarito and a rematch

arum puts Margarito on the Nov 10th card to stay busy while trying to sell a potential Margarito Cotto showdown

and its Golden Johnson not Glen

and also I must note that Margarito did indeed say his preference was to fight Williams since he is the WBO mando as far back as Nov 2007

how do you avoid something he petitioned for?

also of note from July of 2007 to June of 2008 rarely was the name Margarito mentioned out of Williams or his teams side judging by the reporting on this site

this is the first time Williams says he wants to fight Margarito since July and the WBO allowing him an optional defense

uh maybe thats because the Cotto Margarito fight was all but agreed upon to be his next fight?

the offer was never presented to Margarito or his team. Not by Bob and not by Dan.

The champion is willing to vacate his title and therefore the mandatory can still fight for the vacat belt.

your hate is so noticable in every post you make towards margarito. The ONLY reason he fought williams was to have the wbo belt in negotiations with a cotto fight. He did not want to get stripped so fought his mandatory(williams). He lost the fight. Him and his team IMMEDIATELYwanted the re-match. The belt was the reason he took the fight and now he lost it why isn't he going to want it back??? That's ****** he wanted the belt he went as far as petitioning to the wbo to make himself williams immediate mandatory would set up and immediate re-match. The WBO approved margarito's petition and gave paul williams and optional defense and paul was to decide whether he wanted an optional defense before the mandatory was forced upon him. So yes you guessed it pwill decided he would take the optional defense instead of the immediate rematch! Well williams got his ass handed to him in that defense lossing the belt margarito wanted. Paul went for the rematch with quintana to get his belt back. Was margarito supposed to wait around????? You're an idiot paul williams ducked the immediate margarito re-match for an optional defense and lost the damn belt. Story over. It's like you guys purposely avoid the facts of the matter and talk about a "4mill" offer Broken record with you idiots.
