      Got a reply:

      Dear Matt,

These sort of situations have to be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. Mosley is an especially difficult case because he’s still a natural welter, but has fought at jr. middle because that’s where the best purses have been in the recent past. Sometimes we just have to use common sense and make what we feel is the best call. It’s an art, not a science.

As far as The Ring 100 is concerned, it is virtually impossible to draw up any kind of list that everybody agrees with 100%. And if we could, what fun would that be?

      Thanks for you interest.

      NC

      Here is my original email.

      Dear Mr. Collins,

I looked at the weekly rankings on The Ring's website, which is fantastic by the way, and not to my surprise, Paul Williams is now ranked 2 at Jr. Middleweight and moved up. However a question that immediately came to mind was, why didn't Shane Mosley appear in the rankings at 154 too because his last fight was against Ricardo Mayorga at 154? I know that he's returning to fight Antonio Margarito on January 24th at 147 pounds, but shouldn't have Shane been counted in the rankings at 154 too?

At first I thought, "Well Ricardo wasn't ranked in the top 10, so maybe that is why Shane wasn't ranked", but then I came quickly to realize that fighters such as Jorge Linares moved up in weight without fighting a top 10 fighter and he was ranked. I guess you could say that Mosley had no intention of fighting at 154 again, but shouldn't that have still ranked him? Also Paul Williams seems to have interest in fighting Margarito at 147 again, so if he returns, does he get his #2 ranking back or what?

Also, who does the ranking for the Top 100? I thin k it's Erik Rasking and I know it is subjective, but you guys very underrate Wladimir Klitchsko. Having him behind Zsolt Erdei, even if it's only one place, is criminal. I'm not that big of a Wlad fan, but he deserves to be higher ranked. That and Oscar being #15 or Jorge Linares #26 (might be 36), doesn't seem that right either to be honest. Overall it's a very good list.

      Thanks for reading,

      Matt Paras

Excellent initial email to him, the comments are objective and fairly made. Difficult to argue with.

Given that, I'm disapointed with the reply. It doesn't really answer anything. It essentially ironically just infers, there's no rules and we can do what we like.

I emailed him back, still asking if Williams would get his ranking back if Williams-Margarito II were to happen before Cotto-Marg 2 and where would Pacquiao be ranked.

And Mundine is #4 in the SMW rankings after he ditched his minor belt to campaign at MW, which he hasn't actually done yet.

Considering that De La Hoya had a close fight with Mayweather at 154, he should be up that high. As long as he isn't 1 or 2 considering he has no desire to fill the vacancy. Williams is at 2 because he just beat the #2 ranked fighter in Phillips.

Because he had a close fight with Floyd is a lame excuse. Floyd coudnt even make 154, he was 150. he is not a JMW. And before that what DLH did in that division. And Williams wasnt even ranked at JMW to be #2, It doesnt matter is he beat the #2 guy. Guys like Santos, Martinez, ect, ect, should be higher for now!!!!
