Good post! When we really think about it, there were no "name" fights available in 2008 for Mikkel. However, there are several possibilities now, such as Taylor, Hopkins, and Jones.

Having the WBA world title puts Kessler into a better bargaining position. Early in 2008, coming off the loss and not having left him fewer options.

Miranda was completely available for him, in which Showtime was willing to fork over the money for. After for his next fight, he could have easily fought for the WBA title if he wanted a belt to set himself up for it.

I don't know why Palle didn't do this for Kessler. Poor management for sure.

You'll not agree with this, but I think Sartisan is a better fighter than the china-chinned, poorly-skilled Miranda.

        Time will prove I'm right.

China-Chinned? Miranda took some bombs from Pavlik and Abraham before getting KOd. Miranda beating Green, Eastman, and Gibbs is better then anything Sartisan has done. He also was competitive with Abraham the first fight. That shows he is a lot better then Sartisan, who barely managed to win a round off of Kessler.

How will time prove Sartisan is right, when he's already been KOd by Kessler and Kessler will most likely be top dog or someone else of a lot higher status (Taylor/Bute) be the king of 168. Sartisan ain't **** buddy.

Besides, would Sartisan be the 168 titlist anyway? Why couldn't Kessler fight Miranda first on Showtime to American audiences/gain a lot of hype in the making and then fight Sartisan for the belt. Sartisan would have fought for the belt anyway against some bum and if he is as good as you say he is (which is bull imo), then he should have still had the title.

turning down the miranda fight was idiotic on kesslers/his teams behalf

mirandas style suited kessler beautifully, and miranda is a decent fighter who is well known and would have gained kessler exposure

not only that, it would have been a decent fight, kessler would have outboxed and maybe stopped him but mirandas raw power keeps it interesting

              good list of boxers there
they pretty much all wasted the year
but id say winky wasted hes the most, by not fighting at all
when it seems, some fairly big fights were right there for him

I think Abner Mares should be on this list. He fought 5 times in 2007 and was being groomed to be one of boxing's best prospects. Then he fought twice in 2008...then just like that, the guy disappeared all of a sudden after talks of a Gerry Penalosa fight fell through.

It's not hard to figure: Too big a risk too soon after the last one that didn't pay off.

Winky by a mile. Honorable mention to Mundine who is wasting his talent fighting those hobos.

That's the correct answer to this poll!

He could have easily fought for the vacant title or the titlist afterwards if he really wanted to that bad. Look at the hype Abraham got for KOing Miranda. Kessler would have been respected like he was before if he did.

As I've said multiple times there where 2 seperate negotiations with Miranda. The fight wasn't made the first time for reasons unknown, but probably due to Kessler's management doing bad business. The second time around the fight was ready to be made and for the WBA title. That time however Kessler was ditched by Miranda simply because he wanted a return with Abraham. So putting the blame on Kessler is off the mark.
