I've actually always wondered how that worked. Couldn't the #1 contender ask for a 99-1 split for himself, and then when the champion declined (obviously), wouldn't they be stripped and the #1 contender would likely get an easier fight for a vacant belt with the #2 contender?

I did try to think pretty hard for a mandatory defense that had a rematch clause, and couldn't come up with one... a second opinion agreeing with you would be awesome from someone...
If you're mandate to fight someone the organisation gives the two party a chance to workout a deal (Marketability) and if they cant agree on a deal the organisation does it for them...in most cases a 70-30 split in favour of the champion.

The Pavlik-Taylor first fight was a mandatory but only for the WBC, So Arum and dibella negiotate a deal to include all the belt/Ring belt in exchange for a rematch clause in case Pavlik won.

Is that why the rematch clause was above 160? Or did that have nothing to do with it?

Also, that still doesn't DQ a fighter from putting a rematch clause in, they just can't use it as a bargaining chip in that case, right?

As in, if Dawson put up his IBF LHW belt against someone, he could conceivably write a rematch clause in, right, or is that against IBF (or any other sanctioning body's) rules?

Yep thats one of the reason why the second fight took place at 166 (Taylor weight problems as well)....If Taylor didnt have a rematch clause and he lost to pavlik like he did at 160 he would have to go back to the queue...Probably number 3 or 4 on the ranking of whichever organisation.

The next guy in line would then get his opportunity at pavlik, Thats why only the organisation choose your mandatory.

Dawson can fight anyone and have a rematch clause in it as long as they're not his mandatory, If he fight Diacanu and loses he wouldnt get a rematch because diacanu was is mandatory so according to the rules of boxing he cant put a rematch clause in it.

I'd Fight Hatton in the UK, so why wouldn't I expect a young prospect in his division to say he would?

Hatton is a licence to print money and everyone at WW wants a shot at the money.

This is definitely a great fight that I hope happens although I don't see Hatton finding as much interest in it as all the fans. I really like Bradley and his chances against Hatton. It's always nice to see a hungry champion making decision's like trying to get the winner of Holt-Torres. I hope this guy does well at 140. He reminds me of the JWW version of Berto.

Witter on top form beats Bradley in my opinion.
Witter was terrible because Bradley was better simple as that.

The fight may of been a split decision but really it should of been a clear UD win for Bradley.

A rematch in my opinion is pointless.

Interesting match-up, but i think it would end in a Hatton win.

Think, Think, Think...have you come up with something?

BECAUSE THERE IS NO NEED TO DRAIN YOURSELF FOR THE FIGHT if both fighters are the same weight by fight time. Both Fighters will be 100% healthy without the risk of possibly feeling flat from draining themselves for the weigh-in.
