Dawson is just after another old guy to fight for a big payday instead of looking to beat young hungry fighter of his own era.

That's not the question. The question is would Calzaghe benefit from a win over Dawson? Surely that's a big "yes." Another quality notch on his gun to add to his legacy. But, if Dawson beat Calzaghe, Dawson would draw great credit for beating an unbeaten long reigning future HOF champion with an inside trek to ATG status.

    It's good fight for both.

      Yes sir.
Zags has already got my respect. I'm not trying to put undue pressure on the bloke.
One last fight against the young lion....(Chad Dawson)
Take the fight, or no. Dawson is ready.

You will note that most of those listed where past or future SMW belt holders.
lolololololololol. NO!!! IBO, isn;t even a real organization. Eubanks is the only one that stands out there, and he was well past it at the time. While I agree that Lacy was a bit of a hype-job. It wasn't until he fought Lacy that he trully won his first world title. Being apart of BWAA, lineal titles are the only ones that hold significance to me. Big fights can happen without a title on the line, but lineal titles are the only ones that trully matter when talking about legacy. The thorough beating that Calzaghe gave Lacy in such a big fight (It established the 1st true SMW champion) is a testament to what he should've been doing years ago when he was pissing away his career fighting so-so guys. He should've fought Sven Ottke, and should've fought Roy Jones about 6 years ago. Win or lose (if he fought Ottke in Germany he would've lost no matter how bad he would've beaten him) it would've done more for his legacy than beating a 100 Omar Shiekas. Jeff Lacy gave Joe Calzaghe is chance to shine, and ever since (minus the two defenses against Mandfredo and Bika) Joe has been fighting the best fights. Too bad he didn't start that 7 years ago when it would've served him best. So Lacy was his first big fight, her threw away years of credibility before that.

it would beignornt to say that it wouldn't mean anything. Dawson would become an instant superstar and would probably be in the top 3 p4p. Now you could cay that his win over Glen Johnson was meaningless because most people thought that he lost and was hurt countless times in that fight.

              Nice one.

Having said that the ppl who don't give Calzaghe credit for the Hopkins win after seeing how BHop performed against Pavlik are just clowns.

I hope you're not the type to flip-flop when people mention Bernard Hopkins being 43 when he fought Calzaghe. Your second statement could easily be applied to Calzaghe as well.

It doesn't necessarily mean either. You can only look at a fighter's record as a whole. If Calzaghe doesn't retire, sooner or later a hungry, talented 'young gun' will come along and beat him as he gets old, tired or just bored. It's inevitable. Might be Dawson, might be the next one, or the next one after that. Whoever it is, ten years later people will be dismissing the win in just the same way somebody did earlier regarding Calzaghe's over Eubank. At the end of the day, they are fighters from different, if closely related, eras and Dawson is far more likely to be remembered for (if they ever happened) fights against someone like Kessler or Pavlik than Calzaghe, or B-Hop.
