    Are olden fighters over-rated?

Honestly I think they are... People acting like Jake La Mota was something special when he lost almost every big fight he had, or came lucky against others. People acting like Rocky Marciano was great just because of his resume, beating some of the people he beat were just back for paydays... and you guys moan about joe calzaghe? Ricardo Lopez had a much better resume at 51-0-1 but because he was a strawweight he goes unnoticed.

Some fighters I agree with, sugar ray robinson, muhamed ali etc, were both terrific fighters.

Thoughts? Don't forget these guys got on ATG lists... !?

I know what your saying, but boxing is different than other sports. With sports like Football older players get overrated slightly because evolution has taken it's course, and the caliber of athletes now as compared to back than are worlds apart.

Boxing to me is different, I think it's one of the only sports where you can actually compare fighters across generations.

LaMotta had an Iron jaw and was never knocked down. Even in the fight he threw he was stopped against the ropes and never touched the canvas. His will and determination were unmatched in a boxing ring. he fought Sugar Ray Robinson 7 times and granted he only won one of those bouts he was the 2nd best in his weight class during his time to Sugar Ray not too bad of company. The fact he fought close to 100 fights and never hit the canvas is impressive in itself....Lefty

It's not exactly outrageous to have Aaron Pryor beating Ricky Hatton by KO and it's not like Pryor fought in the early 1900's.

LaMotta had a great resume and certainly didn't lose every big fight he was in (wins over Cerdan, Robinson, Zivic, H. Williams, all hall of famers). He hardly fought any soft opposition in all of his 100 fights.

when judging boxers you have to keep their career in context of their era...

If Pryor was the name in the poll, then i agree with that 90%.
