Joe Calzaghe Denies Dawson Rumors, Retirement Decision

Joe Calzaghe has spoken out about rumors that he's negotiating for a fight with IBF light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson, and the rumors that he announced his retirement. Calzaghe says both stories are false. He expects to make a decision on his career after the holidays and is not involved in any kind of negotiations for another fight. [details]

That #1 P4P spot should be your motivation, I hope next person that interviews him tells him that.

NO WAY WILL CALZAGHE FIGHT DAWSON. No way...yes, he beat an older, slower roy and b hop, but does he deserve to be called an all time great? NO WAY. Now, does he have an all time great record? Yes indeed. But I know a few young cats that would deck Calzaghe on an hours notice. Anyway, nah...he ain't dumb enough to fight Chad. www.acastleinthesky.com

For once I would like to see a boxer honor his word. How many times have we heard Joe say, this is it, my last fight. Then he says, I'll think about it, blah, blah. He's not alone obviously it's just annoying that fighters can't just make a decision and stick to it. If you're going to pull a Barry Sanders and leave on top, fine, just don't waste our time talking maybes and we'll see.

i knew the other article was some bull****.....

turning down chad, only leaves calzaghe w/ the hopkins rematch. i'm pretty sure it's too early for calzaghe to bac himself into a corner like that...

for negotiations....he figures if he's talking retirement, its gonna send a message to potential promotors/fight makers that they need only bring serious offers.....

              but i feel your pain

                    calzaghe

i can't think of anybody that could motivate calzaghe to fight again. people talk about chad dawson, please... dawson isn't even in calzaghe's league; he couldn't even get "ancient" tarver outta there. from middleweight on up boxing is in a "'recession". the only thing that could motivate him at this point in his career would be an astronomical amount of money.
i heard on hbo, during hatton's fight with paulie, that hatton made 40 million for his fight with mayweather; unf**king believable... these uk fighters are taking over boxing. hatton had 1.5 million buys in the uk alone which is 1/5 the size of the u.s. europeans are making all the money in boxing these days. de la hoya is the only fighter in the u.s making that kind of money. where is mayweather when we need him
