De la Hoya = the most popular Mexican American boxer ever
Margarito = currently the most popular Mexican fighter

Margarito is currently at the top of his game and coming off a huge win while DLH has received criticism among boxing fans over career moves that he has recently made therefore Margarito is probably the more respected of the two at the moment but DLH still has a larger overall fanbase in the US. DLH also still has a very enthusiastic fan base in the Chicano community but most Mexican born fans are obviously going to root for their champ Margarito.

And no DLH aint white, he looks like a mestizo chicano on the lighter side. His father is brown skinned and his grandfather looks full Indian.

That pretty much sums up my feelings. I was once a bigger fan of Oscar than I am today because of career decisions and the way he fought. I was ecstatic when he shut Vargas's mouth, but he has become a business first, fans last type of guy. Margarito, on the other hand, is coming off a huge win and can gain even greater respect if he doesn't start making bad choices now that he's in the driver's seat.

I live in Phoenix, my GF is Mexican, her parents speak no English and there are 3 white people where I work, the rest are either from Mexico or are 1st generation American with Mexican immigrant parents. They all love Oscar, every one of them. You're talking to some knockoff Mexicans man, lol.
