IMO it is Robinson, not because his record was outstanding up into he retired and came back a mess but because his combinations, speed etc was more outstanding. Ali was a good talker, entertainer and was good in the ring. But who was better?
Robinson or Ali no 1 ATG?

Prime Ali was the superior Athlete. blazing hand speed for size and very fast feet. He fought the better opposition, even when he was past prime he still managed to beat great fighters. Robinson had a lot of wins and such, but they weren't against amazing fighters - to me this means nothing. I can see a lot of other great welterweights giving Robinson trouble, I see few great heavyweights beating a Prime Ali, the comeback Ali that even fought Frazier and Foreman - he could lose i'm sure, but not the Ali that fought Liston.
So i'm going with Ali, he had a great resume. -
robinson, he was the greatest and the greatest there will ever be
over two hundred fights with 19 losses, most of these coming when he was in the later stages of his career. everyone who saw him box at the time said he was the greatest and i think he is the greatest ever.

Ali would have been undisputed best no doubt if it weren't for Vietnam and prison. Still I think the record he amassed over the years is superior(albeit slightly) to SRRComment

Robinson was almost the perfect fighter, incredible speed, power, agility, technique. Ali was a distinctive Heavyweight, with a lot of factors that made him the king of the jungle in the HW division for so long. You can debate on the opposition they both faced but it would just be speculation, I don't know, so many attributes to consider, but I'd say Ali=#1 ATG Heavyweight, Robinson=#1 ATG pound for pound.Comment

How did Robinson not beat great fighters? Is this serious or are you just joshing? Gavilan? LaMotta? Basilio? He fought 16 former or current undisputed World champions (eight more than Ali across three weight classes) and faced/beat more Hall of Famers and, at 40, got jobbed to a draw in the third Fullmer fight way past prime. He NEVER lost to a Welterweight in over 90 some tries.Prime Ali was the superior Athlete. blazing hand speed for size and very fast feet.
