So the question is, if he came back for one last fight, and easily beat (wide UD, or TKO) either Williams, Cotto, or Margs, would that satisfy you?

Would that make his claim as an ATG (Top 10), or do you think that he will still have too much unfinished business?

Just a conversation I has today. Just wondering what you guys would think.
I think he will NEVER get respect.. until he has a war... The paradox is... he might just be too good to ever be in a war..

beating cotto, margs or williams won't make floyd top 10 ATG because at the end of the day who the **** is cotto, margs and williams??? I mean they are good, but not great.

I thought the same with Hopkins and Calzaghe. Hopkins best win at middleweight is arguably Tito; a former Welter. Tarver was deflated and Pavlik still counts as a middleweight, which does boost Hopkins legacy as far as a Middleweight. Calzaghe, best win against Kessler, who I don't see as "elite." but is a good fighter and a solid win.

They will get credit for clearing out their divisions...not sure how much more or where they would rank in the top 100.

Jones Jr: great talent...I guess Hopkins, Toney, and Ruiz are good enough to put him somewhere.

It's hard to say. We would have to break down the list of the top 100, which varies.

        Hopkins

Trinidad was a LMW who boiled down to WW he struggled at the weight for a long time he beat the crap outta of all the LMW he fought with ease infact you could argue he was comfortable at 160lbs when you see his fights with Joppy,Cherifi

Tarver was deflated well i think we can even that up with Hopkins age its not like he was in his prime like Floyd arguably was against Corrales

Pavlik is not a natural MW he has said himself many times how he has to sit in a sauna the day before a fight to get down to 160lbs

Hopkins get lots of credit from me cause of the calibre of fighters he beat not having an unbeaten record or moving through weight divisions dont impress me as much TBH

ATG, I dunno. Except for an aging Oscar, he lacks bona fide legends in his resume. I believe he has the goods though in terms of skills.

I think with Cotto he'd still get a lot of flak because the guy just got destroyed and people would take note if Floyd's not as impressive as Margarito in manhandling him.

Margarito and Williams' stars on the other hand are currently on the rise and both outsize him significantly. He should get mad props for beating either one but their names just don't carry the weight in terms of all-time bragging rights.

Right now it's Margarito that people wanna see him in the ring with most and if Floyd beats him, he should at least get a lot more credibility and respect than he's been getting now.

With your logic, Hatton becomes a great win because Floyd started at 130 and so does any win after that. Hatton beat Kostay Tszyu, a supposed great...even though I did say Tszyu was past his prime. Hatton did beat Collazo though

Oscar beat Tito in my opinion before Hopkins. Yes, Oscar wasn't in his prime when he fought Floyd.

Pavlik has shown to be not so great...just decent. It just means Pav is getting away with picking on smaller fighters. Pav did beat Taylor though, although Taylor isn't so great either.

Oscar had more in him than Tarver in my opinion. Tarver looked like Gumby after coming out of boiling water.

I give Hop repect though: he stuck around for a long time and did well. He's been past his prime for 8 years and beat Pavlik...that's something...but in that time, he did lose to Taylor twice.

its a hard question for me because it partly matters on which welterweight and im not sure if i can pick just one...

with guys out there like cotto, margarito, pacman (not a welter but still), and the possiblity of an oscar de la hoya rematch there is no one win in my opinion (no matter if he absolutely owns just one fighter and wins every round by a wide margin) that can just instantly make him a top atg...

he's already on the atg list but not as high as he could be...

i'd put him in the top 25-30 right now...

if he were to go and beat ONE of those guys convincingly i could see him being top 20-25...if he beats MOST OF THEM...i can see him being top 10-15...if he beats them ALL if you dont put him in the top 10 its a robbery...

if he beats them all he'd have one of the best resumes of our time easily...

                    I'm liking the conversation.

I must say BoxingScene, we have come a long way.

A thread where we talk about Floyd, Margs, AND Cotto with NO **** talking.

                    I am proud. Very Proud.

See this is exactly how I feel. But when I heard that his hands wouldnt hold up to even 2 more matches, it kind of got me wondering.

I think that all the fighters right now are just "Elite" fighters and no where near Great. Therefore, I think that Floyd would stamped his legacy as far as he could if he takes out one of the big three.

No what would be more legacy cementing....

A win over a low belt champ at 160, a win over Vernon, or a win over one of the big three?

I just cant see any scenario really boosting up his legacy. To me he is top 10, but others he is no where near that.
