Hatton: "We can learn from the UFC."

    From The Daily Star:

Hatton was at ringside in Las Vegas to see Randy Couture lose his world heavyweight title to man-mountain Brock Lesnar, who beat him with a second-round stoppage.

And ‘The Hitman’, who faces Paulie Malignaggi at the MGM Grand Arena next Saturday, told me: “The presentation and general approach of the UFC is something that boxing can learn a great deal from.”

It was Hatton’s first taste of live UFC action and he said: “The whole aspect of it was great and, rather than boxing ignore it, it should take a leaf out of the UFC book.

“For instance, they have big screens around the arena with pre-fight interviews which really get the crowd involved. Why can’t we do that at boxing matches in the UK?

“I was really, really impressed. I know that the UFC sells out wherever it is – but to be present at this fight night was an eye-opening experience.”

I fail to see how having screens in the arena's makes any real difference. I don't know why he is bigging UFC up after that, the fight itself was awful.

I don't find nothing wrong with his view. The pre-fight interview aren't a bad idea. He isn't really talking about the sports and their science but rather the presentation of the sports. After-all, UFC is selling big now in the U.S. and are marketing excellently with fighters like Lesnar. I just hope this doesn't turn out into another boxing vs MMA thread. Been in enough of those threads that it will be just be a recycled version of them. But overall, Hatton's comments aren't insulting to boxing at all...

Even when it does end up standing most fighters are so amateurish punching I just laugh, my favourite fighter in MMA fight now has to be Silva or Fedor. Silva because most of his fights are standing and he looks got throwing punches. Fedor because he's a badass.

O and the Daily Star is a tabloid it's a bull**** newspaper with no credibilty (I lived in the UK)

If someone like Lesnar fought for a boxing title after only a few fights i would cry. Perhaps there are things to learn from the presentations, but i don't want boxing to turn into a circus with randoms like Lesnar and Kimbo getting all the attention, even if it does attract your average moron.

I agree with you on this point. The majority of MMA fans are only starting to learn about MMA and the different components and styles. After-all, it's relatively new in the mainstream media unlike boxing. So it takes a while to get used to. And I do believe that Lesnar and Kimbo get unnecessary attention but eventually, it sells and that's just what the MMA businessman want. I find nothing wrong with those two in the sport, but unfortunately, they get a big boost within a few fights. One ended up getting the title, the other one ended up losing to a fairly unknown guy. With Lesnar though, he was a champion in college wrestling and received many awards and championships in wrestling. If you actually take the sport for what it is, it really isn't all that bad. No one says you can't be a MMA fan if you're a boxing fan. There's more to the sports than just the two fighters you mentioned...much more....

How about making the undercard important.

Not only did the UFC card crown a #1 contender to the Lightweight title, it put Damian Maia in serious contention for the Middleweight title as well.

When has that happen in Boxing?

I don't mind MMA, it just isn't my thing. I don't like to see someone getting hit while they're on their back, and i feel an anticlimax when someone submits to an armbar or whatever. I would take K-1 over it anyday.
