    A different thought......

Williams is the kind of fighter with skills to knock a promising career off track with a dominating victory...... no wonder why so many fighters are choosing to avoid him. But for the right fighter with the ability to overcome the the awkard style of Williams and come away with a victory, it will go a long way in solidifying their legacy in boxing history. Consider two all time greats who faced a similar challenge in a fighter from the not so distant past and decide for yourselves how their place in boxing history was effected.

Would anybody argue that Roberto Duran or Sugar Ray Leonard are not among the greats in boxing history?

Roberto Duran in a devastating 2nd round KO loss to Thomas "Hit Man" Hearns suffered no [Ilegacy damage[I] and is still considered one of the greatest fighters in history. Of course he secured enough significant victories for his legacy to weather this overwhelming loss.

I also submit that Sugar Ray Leonard legacy wouldnt be the same without the two classic wars with the "Hit Man" ... an amazing 14th round come from behind TKO victory over Hearns in 1981 and gift Draw over Hearns 8 yrs later in 1989 after Ray Leonard was knocked down in the 3rd and 11th rounds.

So in some sense Tommy made Sugar Ray.......... (even though the hitman had few significant victories in his career .... Duran of course....also a 6rd KO victory against an aged pipino cuevas...... a tough majority decision over a tough Wilfred Benitez whos only loss was at the hands of Sugar Ray Leonard..... and a light heavy weight title victory in the twilight of his career vs a young undefeated Virgil Hill.) All other Hearns victories are over fighters you probably wouldnt remember if I mentioned their names. Yet Thomas Hearns holds a special place in boxing history if not among one of the recent greats.

Williams has the skills and potential to be a career maker for modern day fighters the way Hearns was in his day.

In the end, Williams will probably be relegated to the "also rans" of the fight game. In my opinion he will never be considered an all-time great.... but he doesnt have to BE an all-time great to play a roll in solidifying another fighters status AS an all-time great.

So if you've been wating for my point here it is...... forget Margarito, Mosley, Cotto, Pavlik, and others ......

Floyd Mayweather has the ability to throw a wrench in the plans of Arum and Golden Boy Camps and shift the power of the boxing world back into his corner and the corner of Williams/Goosen by coming out of retirement and fighting the guy no one else is willing to.

If this were to occur (an this is a HUGE "if")...... a Williams victory will cause a flood with offers with Williams/Goosen in the drivers seat. Arum and Golden Boy would go insane and Mayweather would have had a hand in dealing a painful blow to those he distains most in the fight game. A Mayweather loss will probably have very little effect on the legacy of Mayweather who is in his mid thirties and could claim ring rust and Williams awkward style as the reason for the loss. Many all time greats experienced losses against up-and- commers and have been extended grace in how we looked at their place in history.

A Mayweather victory would put Arum, the Golden Boy on tilt as well. It would drive them crazy and shift the power of the fight game squarely back in his corner in one fell swoop. How you ask.....

With one small provision in the fight contract.....that all future Williams fights be exclusive under Mayweather Promotions. Win lose or draw Mayweather gets the one guy who can wreck havoc on the fight game from 147 to 165. If you were Williams would you be willing to strike such a deal? I wouldn't be suprised if he didnt just jump at the offer!!!!

    Upsides to this offer:
-Huge blockbuster fight that couldnt be topped - not even by the Golden Boy -Packuiao
    -Instant credibility
    -A dream future

    Downsides:
-? can you find one because I would be willing to hear if there are any

Of course this will never happen..... and we all no why..... but if Mayweather can look at the opportunity to inflict some sweet revenge against his greatest detractors (and not at the money) it would be one of the greatest and slickest moves Mayweather has ever pulled off inside OR outside the ring!!!!

I understand where Williams is coming from. But come on, the dude is too damn' tall to fight in the welterweights. I wouldn't fight a dude i couldn't hit either. He's got an 82'' reach for crying out loud! Move up in the division and fight someone your own size. Matter of fact, go fight the Klitchko brothers!

Boxing isnt about height, Margarito is taller than most WW and you dont see people talking about his height.......Did you see the Margarito/cotto side by side picture at the weigh in??

          ....
Tired or not tired, Williams dominated the 12th and final round to secure a victory.

So a 5'11 Margarito can call out Mayweather, a former 130 pounder but all the natural Welterweights can't fight a 6'1 guy without even having to move up in weight????

              ..
              When he asked for it???

Last time I remember, Margarito did not want a rematch. He kept insisting that he won the fight and that there was no need for a rematch.

He then quietly admitted that he did lose the fight "after watching the tape" and said that he needs to start out faster the next time.

Then he went on to take out his new strategy against All-Time Great Golden Johnson in a Pay-Per-View undercard extravaganza "earning" himself a shot at Miguel Cotto. In the post-fight interview, no mention of Williams and only that Cotto "must" fight him.

              The End.

Thats what i read from Margarito himself, But then i read from his manager that they put a petition in for the WBO to mandate then as the number 1 mandatory for a rematch.

But i clearly remembering Rito saying there isnt any need for a rematch..He was clearly upset after the first fight saying he got robbed so that might be the reason why he said no rematch at that time.

Did you ever read properly. The person I quoted said Williams is a natural MW, because he fought most of this fights there, hence is Mayweather a SFW??

Margarito will make more money by fighting Mosley and the rematching Cotto than he would fighting Williams. Same thing goes for Cotto.

Mosley gonna make more money fighting Margarito.

So, he should wait it out or stay at 154.
lol...So it is smarter for Margarito to make a total of $4 million in 2 fights for fighting Mosley AND Cotto, then to make $4 million in one fight facing Williams?

NEWSFLASH..... Margarito currently isnt getting $2 million to fight Shane. I think the offer is around $1.8 million now which explains why no one at Top Rank can get in touch with him.

Fugg Margarito. PW was his mandatory for over a year and when the WBO informed him that he had to sign to fight Williams by January 1, he petitioned the WBO for a non-title fight, a fight with Cotto, THEN his mandatory which was Williams. If Williams would have allowed it, and Margarito would have unified with Cotto, you can bet your ass Margarito would have DROPPED the WBO belt in order not to fight Williams who would have been the mandatory.
