horus, take any good self pics lately?

lets turn this thread around and make it good.

but seriously, who should have cotto fought - i understand that his bouts for belts were vacant but in light of his body of work, that point is moot, no?

Another one of Horus long winded, boring, pointless Cotto bashing threads. Maybe if pretty ***** Mayweather had the balls to fight Cotto he would have taken the title from a reining champion.

                - "We’re rivals,” Cotto said. “Mayweather is a star of the sport and we’re in the same company. Mayweather was a great champion at 130 and 135. We don’t know about 140. When the company says the time is right to make the fight, I’ll fight him. I think it's a good fight. I know Mayweather's a great fighter. But I know I can beat him."

Cotto: I don't know what kind of reason he has for choosing another fighter. If you want to be the best you have to fight the best.
Reporter: You actually believe you will beat Floyd don't you?
Cotto: I'm pretty sure of that, because of my training. Because of my - I trust a lot in myself. And I'm always do more than 100% in my training sessions.

1.Ok Guys, Straight up why has the only time Cotto ever won a belt, it has been for a vacant title?

                    First title:
~ vacant WBC International light welterweight title ~
vs. Cesar Bazan ( CONTENDER) Previous Best Win:Mauro Lucero
                    Second title:
~ vacant WBO NABO light welterweight title ~
vs. Rocky Martinez ( CONTENDER) Previous Best Win:Javier Carmona
                    Third title:
~ vacant WBO light welterweight title ~
vs.Kelson Pinto ( CONTENDER) Previous Best Win: Richard Savage
                    Fourth Title:
~ vacant WBA welterweight title ~
vs.Carlos Quintana (CONTENDER) Previous Best Win: Joel Julio

Where are the champions on that list?

Cotto fights all Medium RISK - Medium Reward fighters
EXCEPT ONE TIME, AND HE GOT HIS ASS BEAT..! (MARGARITO)

Their is a big difference between beating a CURRENT CHAMPION for his belt.
and beating a fellow contender for a belt.

Thats why we have words like CHAMPION and CONTENDER....

and Cotto always fights contenders for his belts...

He has never had to beat a CHAMPION for his belt.
Cotto has never had to take away something from somebody who earned it.

Cotto Flaws....Of Getting HIT alot , and wasting a lot of punches, Is a flaw you can not afford to have against The Elite Fighters And ESPECIALLY (CHAMPIONS)....., THATS WHY COTTO AVOIDS FIGHTING PRIME FIGHTERS(CHAMPIONS) FOR THEIR BELTS... AND FIGHT BULL**** FIGHTERS.. FOR VACANT TITLES.
What up Horus? I just want to say first that I read the entire thread but I wanted to respond to the thread starters first post. I will start off by saying Mosley, Hopkins, and Cotto are in the top 5 of my fav active fighters. I will also say I am not going to bash Money May or any other fighter in my response.

With that being said let me start off by saying you have done your research sir. Before you pointed these bullet points out I had not been aware of those facts. In the same respect for business sense in order to get big named fights ie fights against other champions you have to make a name for your self. There is no other way to make a name for your self other then winning belts and getting your face on TV and PPV. Cotto and Arum did what was needed to do to make him a name brand in boxing. He is a devastating body puncher this is a known fact. He defintely has flaws but what fighter doesn't? Every bad, good or great fighter can be beaten this is a fact. It is a matter if the opponent has the style and the smarts to figure out how.

The reason he fought for so many vacant titles well it can be looked at one or two ways. It can be looked at A Cotto rather fight a CONTENDER as you were happy to pointout or B the current chamo wasn't offered enough money to fight COtto or he himself avoided Cotto. I think it is a mixture of those things. Remember my friend boxing is a sport and when these guys retire they can't live off legacy. They aren't going to get checks from fans like you and me to help support them once they leave the ring.

Cotto is defintely a very good fighter with a killer insticnt. he won 7 out of 11 rounds and was ahead on the cards when he couldn't continue against Margarito. i ,ean people say he quit I say his bosy quit on him. He could have stood up and got knocked out but the damage he might have absorbd could have been perminate. i mean who knows at this pint if he will ever be the same as he was beofre that fight? You say he is a big question mark well you can say the same for alot of fighters who you and others consider great.

Fact of the matter is he fought Quintana (who beat Pwill) He fought and beat Zab (who gave Money May hell for 4 or 5 rounds) he fought and beat my fav Sugar Shane Mosley (who will give anyone hell when he comes to fight)He fought and lost to Margarito (who most in the weight class won't even get into the ring with) for those 4 fights I have to give him credit. That 4 fight run is very impressive and most great fighters don't fight that many brand names their whole career much less fight those 4 guys with in a two year period.

yes his punches are sometimes waisted. Yes he is hit by uppercuts and over hand rights rather easily and Zab, Mosely and Margarito proved. Yes he has fought for vacant titles and yes he won thos matches. One thing that can be said for him is that when he gets in the ring it is an exciting match. All 4 of those fights I mentioned were very exciting to watch. He changed styles against Mosley. Made adjustments against Margarito in order to fight with movement. He showed the heart of a champion by getting up off the canvas gainst Ricardo Torres and won the fight. Th fact he can be hurt and he comes forward and is looking to hurt his opponent makes him exciting.

When Cottof ights he isn't going out there with the mind set I am going to out point my opponent. he goes out there with the mind set I am going to break down and knock my opponent out. When I watch a Cotto fight I am not fighting to stay awake I am fighting tio keep my a$$ on the couch and in my seat. So yes you made some valid points and yes there is still some question marks to be answered by Cotto and yes we may never have all the answes but I bet we surely will enjoy watching him go out and there and ask other fighters some questions. Cotto vs Michael Jenning for the Vacant WBO Title. I will be watching and waiting for Margarito vs Cotto II....Lefty

Good post man, but before people jump all over you, Marg was ahead on the cards. If the fight ended after 10, he would've won an MD. Two judges had it 96-94, one had it 95-95. I had it 96-94 Cotto, but some of those late rounds were hard to judge. It was pressure vs. clean punching. A few could have gone either way.
