Mosley who is a bigger name than Margarito, and it did less buys than the fight between Cotto vs Margarito.
Definitely see your point, but the promotion this fight got was serious. There was one TV spot calling it "The Fight of the Decade". The Cotto/Mosley fight didn't get the press this one did, we can credit Arum for that.

But your right, the PR/Mexico thing definitely had a huge impact on the buys I agree with you on that. I just think, as a rule, Cotto is a bigger draw. But that might have changed with the first fight.

I have to disagree with the bold part, I think the fight didn't get the promotion that other big fights get.

Holy ****!!!!!!! Man I hope he is alright, Margarito is the last man who would duck anyone specially Mosley since he's been calling him for a few years. I hope he didn't get kidnapped or something, I feel something terrible happened to him, the situation in Mexico is worst now than ever

We're gonna have to agree to disagree on that part then because the hype that this fight got was ridiculous. I had friends who don't watch any boxing asking me about this fight. It was like a foregone conclusion that it would be an epic battle to the general public.

No sooner did Schaefer walk in than he was asked about the status of the proposed title bout between his fighter, "Sugar" Shane Mosley, and welterweight champion Antonio Margarito, who is promoted by Bob Arum.

Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, told us a week ago that Mosley and Golden Boy had agreed to terms. Arum said the money was good for both sides and that he expected Margarito in his Top Rank Inc. offices in Las Vegas the latter part of the week. But there was no Margarito.

Margarito then was scheduled to come in either Monday or Tuesday of this week. Again, he was a no-show. And Schaefer said Wednesday that even Arum can't get in touch with Margarito.

"I just got off the phone with Bob," Schaefer said about 1 p.m. Wednesday, as about 75 members of the media waited to speak with De La Hoya. "He said he left six messages for Margarito and (Top Rank president) Todd duBoef left him two text messages." [details]

cotto and marg are both PRican and Mexican favorites... if they can't sell their ppv's without HBO promoting it with a 24/7 series or something then they are failures.

plus it doesn't help that they don't speak english.
