    Assessing Hopkins vs. Pavlik

Im not trying to take away from Bernards win...

But, is it safe to say that was NOT Kelly Pavlik in the ring at 170 pounds?

If the fight was at 160, would we have seen a different fight?

You could obviously argue hopkins had something to do with that, and I would agree.... but that just was not Kelly Pavlik... just like that wasn't Winky Wright at 170 lbs either..

Hopkins slaughters Pavlik at any weight.

It's safe to say that Pavlik is much more dominant against 160 pound fighters where his size advantage makes him a significantly more imposing figure. It's hard to overpower larger fighters.

It's also safe to say that the fight wouldn't happen at 160 since Hopkins wasn't going to go down in weight.

Pavlik saw an opportunity to make a lot of money fighting an older fighter coming off a loss and add to his resume'. He accepted the risk and paid the price.

I agree and said the same thing while not taking a great fight away from Bernard. BUT - anyone who has watched Kelly, knows that wasn't him in there. Maybe it was just because it was Bernard, maybe the weight, maybe the sickness. I really don't know. That fight featured, IMO, Bernard Hopkins and someone who looked like Kelly Pavlik.

Well look at the scorecards... regardless of what weight Pavlik would have lost. I didn't even give Pavlik a round...so what difference

This is purely down to skill. Pavlik couldn't hit Hopkins because he couldn't find the target. When he did, the target moved, and Kelly missed. Pavlik cannot handle any fighter with great movement. It's also down to the fact that Hopkins hits hard. Kelly got hurt early and it made him very cautious and unwilling to throw shots for fear of being countered. Kelly's movement is dire. Walk forward, walk forward, walk forward. That's the best he can do? The guy is a sitting duck.

People need to stop making excuses for Kelly. He cannot compete with elite fighters. That's all there is to it.

I just disagree.... That wasn't Pavlik in there... and it wasnt JUST because he was fighting Hopkins...
