Is Kelly Pavlik going to be another Jeff Lacy?

By this I mean will he take his first loss at the hands of a veteran and be a completely different, broken fighter afterwards? He got beat soundly by Hopkins.I am interested in what people think.

My personal opinion is NO, he will not go the way of the Lacy's and the Hamed's of the world. Keep in mind it was Kelly's first fight at 170, and he was facing a man who just barely lost to the pound for pound #1 or 2, in Joe Calzaghe. Kelly lost to a Hopkins who was the best Hopkins we've seen in a while. Kelly is still a beast at his weight of 160. Lacy was fighting Calzaghe at 168, and was undefeated at 168, but he lost bad. Kelly is still undefeated at 160, and will continue to fight at 160, where he has done nothing but impressed. So to all the people claiming Kelly is going to fade like Lacy, he's still undefeated at 160 lbs. and is still the ****in champ. watch and see just how good he will be in the years to come. I promise.

nah, he has proved himself before B-Hop showed what his limits were

he's better than Abraham and would deal with him easily - don't believe the hype

I agree. The only thing i wish is that they moved him back in the ring a lil faster. I woulda liked Pavlik -Rubio in late December, right before Christmas. Or a tune up fight, then rubio in feb, and Abraham in June

Nah, the loss will harden him. It'll teach him not to rely on his power all the time and to sharpen up his ring smarts.

I agree. I'm still wondering why he didn't throw more punches against Bernard though. Did anyone else notice how much less active he was up at 170? He seemed like he had nothing on his punches. I think he needs to stay down at 160 for a while, and when he decides to go to SMW to do it gradually. Jumping up 10 lbs. is not right for a guy like Kelly, he needs to ease into the higher weight.

I don't think so, Pavlik will always beat guys with his reach, power, heart and chin and stamina along with being fundamentally technically sound. But..............

There will also be another guy that will come along and have his number too however. He is a world class fighter but I don't think he'll be a dominant champ. He'll always be in an around the top of the middleweight division but I don't think he can reign supreme.

No Pavlik has already beaten top fighters
Jeff Lacy never saw one untill he met Joe.

Pavlik cannot beat Calzaghe or Kessler
but he should have enough to deal with Abraham and Wright.
