I agree. Just because a guy is huge doesnt mean he knows how to throw a punch. A pro like Pavlik would see those incorrectly thrown punches all day long. He would toy with Lebron.

I think a lot of people are missing or misunderstanding my argument. My point in this thread was to say that a sheer amount of size and athleticism can overcome a lot.

Just consider this in extreme terms, for example:

what if a flyweight champion boxer fought an extremely athletic 250 pound athlete from a different sport? I wouldn't pick the flyweight simply because I think his level of skill does not override the size and strength advantage of the other athlete. I think most people are underestimating a person's fighting ability simply because they haven't had formal boxing training. Of course this is a huge factor, but do you really think a trained athlete would completely get dominated by someone 100 pounds lighter than him?

Boxing is a disciplined sport, but don't get it mistaken with something that is purely cerebral akin to chess. There is no chance in hell that your average chess enthusiast would ever beat a professional champion at chess. He wouldn't win 1 out of a 100 games.

I don't think some of you realize that boxing is a highly skilled sport and Pavlik is one of the best in the world. It's actually ridiculous to think to that an athlete from another sport can pick up a pair of gloves and complete with an elite level boxer. Lebron would be lucky to make it out of the first round.

then why did tarver at like 160lbs already KO"d Shaq who's like 320lbs 7 feet tall in a joke boxing match with giant gloves on ESPN?

In a real match Pavlik would destroy Lebron. In a street fight, it's hard to say Lebron could destroy him just due to sheer size and power. But in a boxing match with rules and gloves make no mistake Pavlik will KO him in 1 round.

Current champ. Nard beat his ass, but it was up in weight and not for Pavlik's title.

Being labeled as a boxer and having a boxing license does not give you special powers. Boxers are still human, they're not the superheroes you've built up to be in your mind.

Believe me, once you step in the ring and box with other real boxers a few times, you will see that boxers, ARE in fact, very superior to the average civilian in terms of combat.
