Every pundit, boxer, coach over here have said Joe Calzaghe is a great even just now Lennox Lewis said he is. "He's tied with me" in his own words from an ATG.

Hopkins and Jones are very close to each other ,based on their careers and their peak performances.Calzaghe ,based purely on the film,in his prime is definitely not as good.Whether he is in the same league or below is a matter of semantics.

Your point is a good one, but it also serves to illustrate what I'm saying. A very high percentage of people on Boxing Scene consider Mike Tyson an all-time great, despite the fact that he never beat a great. Calzaghe's record is better than Tyson's, yet very few people question Tyson's status as an ATG.

Holmes and Spinks are considered great fighters,by any reasonable standard.You probably couldn't consider them great at that period.However Holmes years later did go on to outpoint Ray Mercer,had a close fight with McCall and last the distance with Holyfield.

What Calzaghe really lacks was efficient punching ability and his pure defensive skills were never as slick as say Locche,Sweet Pea or Floyd Mayweather.So it is very hard to like his fighting style .

Also,the man has a certain disrespectful unpleasant attitude, that considering how well he was matched early in his career by Frank Warren leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

At least when Tyson KOd Holmes he then had the grace to say that larry "was a great fighter and I wouldn't have a chance with him in his prime."

Calzaghe is on record as saying that Roy Jones Jnr was "washed up" and "shot" and that he had "no interest in fighting him".When he finally does fight this version of Jones, he mugs for the benefit of the viewers and repeatedly mocked a hurt Jones,instead of going for the KO.Of course,that is his prerogative.

Let's put it this way ,it made me feel Calzaghe was rubbing the con in my face.
