close your eyes and think of Muhammed Ali, the greatest sportsman in history in any sport. think of him beating frazier, foreman and all comers. think of his speed, his grace, his humour, his class, his ability.....
now imagine that he is WHITE!
ok i stole it from a film, but it applies here lol
If Ali was a white man, all the negative aspects would be emphasized. They'd talk about Patterson and Liston being old fighters, the state of the heavyweight division being poor in the 60s, talk about his loss to Frazier at age 29, about Norton being robbed and should have two wins not one over Ali, that he was lucky Foreman gassed because he was losing up to that point, etc.Last edited by The Hammer; 11-10-2008, 09:16 AM.Comment

Marciano and Dempsey and no longer considered great because they are white. Back in the 60s, if you watch the old documentaries, you'll see that they were considered great at that time.

Yes, he would unquestionably be considered a great. It has nothing to do with race though. It's purely a psychological issue with boxing fans who are struggling to accept that America no longer has the absolute dominance it once had. They have been conditioned by decades of history, so I don't particularly blame them.Comment

And the best in the division is Chad Dawson. He's young, undefeated and the CHAMPION, the man to beat. So no ATG sorry Joe. Oh and he can fight fast and actively for 12 rounds... I bet that scares the **** out of Joe, the thought of fighting someone who's as active as he is. His flaws would soon be exposed. It's no coincidence he was KD in the first round against both grandpas he fought. Imagine if they could press the action from there?Comment

the more a person sees/knows a fighter and his opponent the more favorable they see him.
nationality/ethnicity has nothing to do with it. at least to most people.Comment
