Oh Dawson would absolutely be the number one choice if Calzaghe were to fight again. What I object to is the insistence that Joe has not done enough in his career but IF HE WOULD ONLY BEAT Bad Chad he'd be an all time great.

Dawson is the only fight for the Blow but he really adds nothing to the Blow's legacy.

And regarding the "accountants", well Calzaghe spent his career fighting on minimum wage for Frank Warren. He's escaped Warren's clutches for two fights and wants to make a bundle to retire on. The cash is going to be important to him and so are the names.

Well this ATG and Legacy stuff don't have any bearing with me. I could care less about that it and just want to see fights that are intriguing.

guys in his own era, not just taking out guys at the end of theres.

maybe dawson is the future.....the rest are the past.
Wait. So you want Dawson to do what Joe Calzaghe didn't do? Nice.

              yeah

u honestly think joe wouldnt of fought jones and hopkins in there prime if they werent the two hardest guys to negotiate with ?

jones and hopkins have been derided for yrs for not fighting the best, fighting smaller guys coming up divisions and being a nightmare to sign fights with.
then suddenly yrs later its all joe calzaghes fault....mmmmm yeah.

The reason Jones and Hopkins would have been difficult for Calzaghe to negotiate with when they were in there primes is that Calzaghe would not have been legitimately entitled to more than 30% of the purse. THose guys were superstars back then whilst Joe was a guy with one SMW title who fought B+ fighters in Wales. While Hopkins was breaking records for consecutive MW defences and Jones was the sport's p4p #1 fighter Joe was a relative nobody.

And the reason Joe did not fight either of those guys in their primes, above all other factors, is that he knows he could not have beaten them.

I am no Joe hater and I have given him a tonne of respect for what he has achieved over a fantastic career, particularly the last 2 or 3 years, but that is just the way it is.

I always laugh when I hear this line. how does adding a Light Heavyweight belt to your record not add to your legacy? yall might have forgotten, but Calzaghe is yet to actually pick up up belt at Light Heavy. the Ring Magazine belt is not real, and even if it was, technically it should by Zsolt Erdie's(which is a joke in itself, but moving on...)

on record alone Dawson would be one of Calzaghe's top 5 wins, how does that not add to his legacy?

thats ******. ever heard of 'passing the torch'? even if Dawson didnt win, just because he fought one of these top guys it would make the future light heavyweight division more exciting and interesting.

it makes me laugh when Calzaghe fans dont even want to see their favorite fighter fight. whats up with that? its not even like Calzaghe has had an amazing hard career or has taken a lot of damage.

Both are notoriously difficult to deal with. Jones was a star, fair enough, but for whatever reason he priced himself out of a legacy fight with Dariusz which many of his fans believe would have been a cakewalk for him.

For a lot of his career Hopkins was also a relative nobody. Just like Calzaghe, he was fighting for small purses against opposition ranging from pretty decent to nondescript, and only held one belt for much of his title reign. He only unified and starting getting superfights pretty late on, much like Calzaghe. That's one reason why Hopkins never got his rematch with Roy. Roy was a star and he wasn't, and Hopkins was unreasonable in demanding a 50:50 split.
