I've seen a lot more from the Calzaghe haters since the win over Jones. The usual suspects, racists like Burner and daggum who can't deal with the fact that a white guy from the UK can be a great boxer, have been making the expected threads and posts bashing and discrediting Joe.

But they can say what they want - they can't change the fact that Joe is an all time great!
maybe in in the UK he is, but not in the US

Why did he leave Wales his last 2 fights?
To get big fights against Jones and Hopkins.

Because Jones and Hopkins would never come to the UK
so it was up to Joe to go over to the states.

Jones, Hopkins and Mayweather have never boxed outside of America
and i doubt they ever will box outside of America.

Mayweather will never be a truly respected fighter regardless of his talent because he dodged to many fights.

So why did he do it when they were washed up and not when they were in there prime?

Sure he will. 20 years from now, nobody will remember that he turned down 8mill to fight Margarito. Instead they will remember that he participated in the biggest boxing event that grossed record numbers of money and that he was a unbeaten 5-division champion with great defensive skills and fast hands.

            Simple as that.

It's the fights that make ATG and Calzaghe hasn't been in against enough fighters that would be clawing at the door themselves.

It's not great dishonoUr, there are maybe 2-4 fighters per generation lucky enough to make it to ATG status and generally they are matched in pairs in the strongest division of that era.

SMW isn't the strongest division in his generation in fatc it's not in the top 5 divisions imho.
              Well said. I agree.

not an atg in my opinion.

current p4p yeah, a great achievement in staying undefeated and undoubtedly very talented but he has not fought and overcome enough competitive top class opposition to be considered an atg.

Hopkins was coming off his two best wins
                  and was the light-heavyweight champion
so how was he washed up ?

He also cameback to dominate Pavlik
so im not sure how you can call him washed up or shot
                  makes you sound pretty ******.

Roy Jones was past his prime but Jones never wanted to fight the best
He never went to the UK to fight Nigel Benn or Joe Calzaghe
and he never went to Germany and fought Dariusz Michalczewski either.

He also avoided rematches with James Toney and Bernard Hopkins.

Jesus Christ, you are naively typical of this forum. Since when have fighters got every fight they want when they want it? Calzaghe had a fight sealed with Hopkins back in 2002 only for Hopkins to back out of the agreement demanding double money. Basically he ducked Calzaghe, and that is not a term I use lightly. I use it in this case because four different sources confirm this is what happened (Calzaghe, Frank Warren, B-Hop's Lawyer and the then Showtime CEO). As for Roy Jones, the man admitted only weeks ago that he wasn't interested in fighting Calzaghe back in the day. Exposure-wise Calzaghe simply wasn't big enough to make the fight worth the risk, even though Jones was apparantly offered $12m.
