    Pathetic thread.

It's always the same with anything to do with Calzaghe though. Whatever he has done, whatever he's doing and whatever he will ever do, it just won't be good enough for some people. He gets a constant barrage of ****ty criticism all the fucking time. Double standards everywhere.

It's ok for Muhammad Ali to showboat, it's ok for Sugar Ray Leonard to showboat, it's ok for Roy Jones Jr to showboat and it's ok for countless other lesser fighters to showboat as well, but it isn't ok for Joe Calzaghe. Same thing with fighting a few bums. For someone like Jones, it was just him being massively better, but for Calzaghe it was him picking on the helpless. If Roy Jones says he can't be beat, he's being charmingly arrogant, but how dare that Euro-bum Calzaghe show a little self-belief!

It's a psychological issue for some boxing fans who, American or not, have been conditioned in the superiority of American at the bigger weights. Sure, the Mexicans can have the the low weight classes, but welterweight upwards is American soil! I even understand why people have become conditioned this way, because history does reflect American superiority. No doubt about it. It's just beyond comprehension that a European fighter can be in the same league as an American great to these people.

I aint even saying Joe Calzaghe is as good as the fighters I've mentioned and I believe a prime Roy Jones Jr would have won a fight against Calzaghe, but I'm fucking sick of the treatment he gets. It isn't fair.

yeah but that's the thing ... at least Jones put the ****er outta his misery and ended the fight

where Cal's showboating just went on and on round after round ... how tedious.

I mean you said yourself that you don't enjoy guys showboating all the time

and sure Roy did showboat some in the fight, but IMO Calzaghe's end of it seemed to go more or less the rest of the fight.

Dawson!? Three weeks ago it was Pavlik! 8 months ago it was Hopkins! A year ago it was Kessler! 18 months earlier it was Lacy!

If Calzaghe fought and beat Dawson there'd be another undefeated young fighter that if only Calzaghe would fight he would get your respect...

Calzaghe could beat a tag team partnership of Superman and the Incredible Hulk and you'd still find ways of discrediting it!

I want to like Joe but just cant. He's so ****ing ****y. Until he beats somebody of note i'm not gonna jump on his **** the way alot of people have.

All Calzaghe fans must know that Hopkins or Jones would have kicked Joe's ass 5 years ago.
So why didn't Jones or Bernard fight him then?

Last I checked, it was Joe who crossed the pond for a fight.

A fight that could have happened years ago.

Its laughable really isnt it? No Calzaghe fan is saying that this fight was an incredible victory that should hold Joe up as the greatest fighter of all time. But trying to discredit the guy because of fights that he WON and having never lost is utterly pathetic. Joe has fought everyone he could whenever he could, a number of them out of his prime too and he has won each and every single one of them.

Let's not forget how a big of an icon Roy is/was and this may well have been his last fight, Joe prancing around like that took the sheen of the end to an amazing career.

Yep. I read every single post of this thread before I posted.

My post wasn't personally aimed at you, although it seems you are at least partly conditioned. It was aimed at general Calzaghe haters.

All I can say is make no mistake if RJJ was up at any point during that fight you would have seen all of this coming from RJJ along with all the whooping and showboating he was doing against Trinidad a few months ago.
Still think these guys had a chat before the fight and agreed not to knock each other out.
