There's a massive difference in my book between singing "the referee's a wanker", and ripping up seats, storming the pitch and physically rucking with the opposing fans. I can remember times back in the old days when I felt genuinely unsafe at matches, even at home games. You used to look down the list of fixtures and know which games there would be trouble at. By that I mean real trouble, opposition storming the away end, use of weapons, fights with the police; a lot more than a few colourful chants. I don't see that anymore. That's why there's a lot more women and children at games. I'm not denying there are still hooligan elements around, but things have improved immeasurably since then and the violence is on a much smaller scale.

          Sorry lad but you failed.
What have I failed exactly? I gave my opinion and you dismissed it and then insulted me and then made assumptions about where and when i frequent. I think you've lived up to the stereotype allright! Have a pint and a pie for me Saturday when you roar abuse at other fans and players, inciting hatred. Your daughter most be very proud of you!

I suppose in America, its shooting the ref that you have to watch out for.

I dismissed it because it's clearly made by someone who doesn't know what they're talking about.

So, pray tell, how many football matches have you attended?

Exactly. Fackin prawn sandwich brigade. You're more likely to see people sitting with laptops, BlackBerrys and champers rather than riots these days.
