Yeah that's why he beat Taylor. JT likes to fight too much in the middle of the ring and when he gets caught on the ropes he usually has a hard time fighting off of them. Pavlik has a great work rate when he gets going but I think that a superior technical fighter like Hopkins is too ring smart for him and knows how to neutralize his offense.

However, since the defeat, reports in The Vindicator newspaper in Pavlik's native Ohio suggest that bronchitis, as well as an elbow injury suffered in training prior to the fight, practically scuppered any chance Pavlik had in the bout.
"We all learned a good lesson," Pavlik's father and co-manager Mike said.

"We know now that if he's not completely healthy, we shouldn't go ahead with the fight.

"He's a tough kid and I think he'll come back with a vengeance. If not, then it's time for him to retire."

Pavlik himself added: "I just couldn't get off. My arms felt like they were 100 pounds each.

"I've never felt like that in the ring. I'd get to my corner and Jack [Loew, trainer] would say, 'You've got to do this,' and I couldn't do it. Even when I was throwing punches and hitting him, there was nothing on it."
not that it matters. Hopkins pretty clearly had his number.

Pavlik was said to double the jab, but in between the 1st and the 2nd jab Hopkins either moved to his left or countered him with a right. Pavlik went to his corner and then read again my post

He was off for whatever reason, it was obvious, we have seen him losing rounds before but he always kept punching. Not saying he would have won but it would have been an entertaining fight if he put in his usual workmanlike performance.

that is a GREAT point that is how he beat Hopkins by claiming the centre of the ring and controlling the pace of the fight

JT reminds me of Chris Eubank in that sense bad stamina likes to fight at his own pace and does not like being put under preasure

Yes, I think weight may have played a small role. The thing that holds many people back from even factoring that in before the fight, is the fact that Hopkins is 43. Everyone including me just assumed that judging by his fight with Calzaghe, he would get out worked.

Yeah, Smogger is a fight referee. Many other referee's would have stopped it when Pavlik nearly slipped to the other side of the ring after the knockdown.

In the end Kelly lost because Hopkins fought a brilliant fight that was well planned ahead of time. Kelly came in expecting an old Hopkins that he would bomb away on, and when it didnt work, Kelly had no plan B. They obviously didnt train him for a fight with Hopkins. They just figured that Kelly would do what he always did and that he would win doing that. Kelly's people let him down big time.
