People forget that just because Tarver hit RJj more times than he been hit in his career, doesn't mean that the guly bloke actually beat RJJ in the first fight. RJJ has had 3-4 years to get over the knockdowns he suffered in the rematch and against Johnson.

I like Roy, as a fighter and as a person.
I'm not trying to criticise Roy's chin. I'm not saying it was bad in his prime, I just think that the video isn't really proof of anything.
I do think he was hurt by Del Valle though, and after the KD in that fight he tried to hold etc. for the rest of the round, which was unusual for him. No big deal about that because almost every boxer has been hurt at some time in their career.
The punch that Tarver caught him with was a great shot, probably would've finished a lot of guys with good chins.Comment

I was just wondering where you stand as far as your opinion on Roy Jones Jr.
Thanks man.Comment

Most fighters hold and/or cover up after being knocked down; it's smart play; you don't take the risk until you know you are 100%.I like Roy, as a fighter and as a person.

I too think he was hurt a bit, but not that bad. His legs did give out and when he got up he tried to play it off...but if he was hurt bad, he wouldn't have had the strength to clinch up and control the way he did.
Ruiz wobbled him as well...
Jones turned his head against both Glenn and Lou...and didn't see the punch from Tarver as well. They are the shots that hurt you the most. If you can take them, then your chin is granite. Of couse the mind and the health of the body plays a role in this as well.
His chin isn't granite, but it's not glass either...that's why I say it's whatever level someone wants to put Lewis on.Last edited by Benny Leonard; 11-02-2008, 08:48 AM.Comment

Roy never took any bad beatins to make his chin erode away prior to Tarver 2 and Johnson. His chin was always vulnerable, but nobody ever knew it cuz he was too ****in fast to be hit. Don't mean he's made of glass, just not the toughest chin in the world. Remember, Tarver landed 1 lucky punch outta nowhere to KO him. Johnson had been beatin him for 8 rds before he finished him. Roy might be able to take a better punch than some realize. I doubt Zag has the pop to hurt him.Comment

This is true, but then RJJ went down to Johnson who probably wouldn't have even punched him 2 years earlier. RJJ has had a few years to recover from them nightmares and weight loss. Trouble is fighting Tito is a bad warm up.I like Roy, as a fighter and as a person.
