Mayweather retiring absolutely shot boxing in the d!ck. We have guys like Calzaghe in the top 2. I love Pacquiao, but having him as #1 in the world goes to show you the sport is suffering a tad. B-Hop is still up there, but he can't stay til he's 50. Some good fighters need to arise and so far they haven't. Marquez and Pacquiao will be retired in a few years, then where are we? Dawson - I think he could be a potential great. But Berto? I don't see it.

Compare today to 10 years ago when the best guys on the planet were Roy Jones, Oscar De La Hoya and Felix Trinidad. You had Mosley coming up and knew Mayweather Jr. was going to be great.

Today we are so far removed from that, it's downright frightening. Boxing is going to be like MMA where casual fans tune in to see a supposedly great fighter, only to have him beaten up by a random nobody

      diegofuego is a complete moron

a fighter isnt automatically "overrated" or "exposed" once they have established themselves as a p4p fighter and then lose to another elite guy
guys like mijares, cotto, are people that dedicate their lives to boxing and risk injury or worse for our entertainment, so maybe diegofuego should shut his mouth or maybe even step into the ring himself before he goes running his mouth off

I won't call a fighter overrated if they have a good resume. What is good about Mijares' resume?

Cotto has a good resume, but calling him a great fighter was absurd from day one. LOSING TO MARGARITO is what told me Cotto is nowhere near great.

Margarito is not a great fighter because he is slow, plodding and one-dimensional.

Pavlik had one good win against Taylor, who should have knocked Pavlik out anyway. Taylor quit throwing punches and got taken out. It was more what Taylor didn't do than what Pavlik did. I thought Taylor won the rematch with Pavlik.

He has fought more than just Arce you know? Well, you probably wouldn't that. I wonder what you would say if Mayweather came back and was owned by ... whoever he fought. I imagine that suddenly you would jumping about this place with your usual tripe, "Mayweather was the most overrated fighter ever1 Who had he ever beaten worth anything? Does a couple of victories over Hatton and Oscar make him the greatest? I always knew he was ****."

Did you ever make any thread about Mijares before this fight? Had you ever watched him before this fight? **** off Fuego. Pretend you know **** somewhere else where someone might give a damn for your worthless opinion.

Actually, tell me something Fuego, who, apart from Mayweather, do you actually like and consider a great fighter? From this era or any other?

I don't think Mijares was overrated so much. However, it is true that many people, including myself, were underrating Darchinyan.

How the hell does a guy billed as a "master boxer" lose to Vic Darchinyan?

No disrespect to Vic fans cuz your boy earned it. I'm calling Mijares out as the most overrated fighter I've seen since following boxing.

If you look at his resume, he'd never really beaten anyone worth mentioning.
                  He drew against maldonado.
Arce was a one dimentional punching bag, Munoz isn't anything special.
And Fans were all over his nut like he's the second coming of Jesus.
                  Yea, he was overrated.

                  Anyway, cong**** to Vic.
Looking forward to a rematch against Nonito.

                    have you ever boxed?

surely it can't be that easy.

surely Vic has boxed many many quality boxers who could box.

i've always thought that is looks a lot easier from outside the ring, as opposed to being inside the ring.

I'm talking about good pro fighters with boxing ability. Not people arguing on the internet. What the hell does your or my boxing ability have to do with Vic Darchinyan? We couldn't beat him. Nobody on this forum could. But we can still say he's not a good boxer because he isn't compared to the pros.

Bottom line is Mijares' resume was nothing spectacular. He got put on the list, much like Pavlik and Margarito, because they won while others lost. They are not great fighters and they lack boxing ability. If I had a great chin, I'd only focus on my stamina. But I wouldn't want people calling me a great boxer if all I did was walk forward and throw punches to win my fights.

If Mayweather came back and lost, I wouldn't call him exposed. I'd realize he'd been out of the ring for over a year and had already accomplished too much to ever be overrated. He's a 5 division champion with no losses and no close fights (other than Castillo when he only had one arm). He is a great fighter because his resume proves he is. Mijares hasn't proven anything. He beat Arce. Big ****ing deal.
