I believe that Montiel is a little more popular in Mexico at this time because he's been in the mix a few more years than Mijares. Mijares was basically an unknown until he beat Arce in 2007. And Montiels style is also more fan friendly in Mexico since he's more of a boxer puncher than a tactician.

You got a good point there, his fight with Arce did bring him tremendous popularity since the whole country was watching Arce. But remember, Montiel has been on the undercard of numerous big PPV cards and he also gained alot more popularity when he destroyed Martin Castillo, who is better than all of Mijares opponents so far. Who do you think would win?
